Reasons for Playing Volleyball
“I have seen that in any great undertaking, it is not enough for a man to depend simply upon himself.”
This famous quote is by Lone Man and it forms the basis of our article, in which we are going to discuss the importance of team sports, specifically, volleyball.
There is a difference in playing a team sport and an individual sport. Individual sport is based more on independent judgments and self-motivation. A player has to decide for herself what would be the right strategy to apply in a particular situation.
Likewise, she has to find the energy within herself to step up in a difficult one. When a player makes a mistake, she cannot hide behind anyone else and face the fact that the blunder was completely her fault. Similarly, when the player does something worthwhile,
the sense of achievement is completely hers.
In contrast to individual sports, team sports rely more on group goals rather than individual goals. It becomes more important that the team wins the match than having a team member break a record. Therefore, team sport focuses more on self-sacrifice and
group effort. The skill of taking directions as well as giving them develops in players that play team sports. Other than that, team sports also teach the players to manage the mistake of other team members.
In the contemporary world, there are various team sports that are popularly played. Among them, the most famous in the international arena is generally considered to be football. However, volleyball is another team sport that has equal, if not more, advantages
to the members that play it. we will be discussing the advantages volleyball has to offer as a team sport.
Volleyball is a six-member game. The number is not so much that it diffuses responsibility among the members and it is not so less that one single player can dominate the game. This characteristic makes volleyball an ideal sport through which a person may
develop solidarity and cooperation. Experiencing high and low moments together bring individuals closer together. They are able to function as a unit and achieve the best possible group results.
The volleyball court may fool a novice into thinking that the game is not as athletic as other sports such as football and hockey etcetera. This assumption, however, is not true.
The assumption that volleyball is not quite athletic is one of the main reasons that there is less media exposure of the game. This in turn hinders it from evolving to the level of football even though it posses the required elements to gain mass popularity.
Also, volleyball was not equally encouraged in schools and colleges until recently. What needs to be done now is to make volleyball education in these institutions more systematic.
The coming generation should be encouraged to take part in volleyball as it would serve to add value to their health as well as mental well being. Playing volleyball would also provide a means of distraction from other social indulgences that are detrimental
to the physical and mental health of a person.
All in all, volleyball is an excellent option to choose if you want to improve your health and build team building skills.
