Question:

Reasons for passing out?

This past weekend I was away on a trip visiting friends. At one point I hopped in my car and drove around the close small towns. I was feeling hungry so I swung into a fast food joint and while waiting in line I passed out twice. The room went blurry, my hearing cut in and out, and down to the cement floor I went. I have never passed out before. A woman grabbed OJ and it brought me to so I was coherent.

I sought medical attention that night because my back and head hurt from landing so hard. The Dr ruled out Diabetes, Hyper-glycemia, and heart arythmia. I am NOT pregnant ( I had to tell them that a dozen times, and finally told them it had been 13 months since I had been with anyone so it was impossible.)

What do you think?

  1. Are you tall?  Are you older?  Have you been working out a lot?  You could be at a caloric low.  That has made many people feel dizzy enough to lose consciousness, especially after sitting down a long time (driving) then standing up (waiting in line).

  2. maybe low blood pressure?

i too have passed out before for no reason. keep an eye on your general health and see how you go.

  3. The causes for fainting and dizziness are too numerous to count including cardiac, hydration status, crash dieting and endocrine (e.g., blood sugar related), body temperature management, toxicological (medications, supplements, chemical exposures), psychological and other.  You need to let someone formally work it up unless before you faint in a unsafe or dangerous location (e.g., while driving).
