Question:

Reasons to buy a motorcycle?

My mom is completely paranoid with my safety. I have had an interest in buying a motorcycle and I have told my mother about it, but she throws the idea down without a second thought. What sort of reasons can I give to my mom that will allow me to have a motorcycle?

(I'm 15.)

  1. how tall are you? i just recently got a bike and im only 5'6. if you want to get a bike be sure that you can reach the floor.

some of the reasons my mom agreed to letting me get a bike where:

save Gas, its allot cheaper than buying a car & its not dangerous if you dont drive crazy......

Let her know that youll drive safe

  2. I'm more than double your age, and my Mom still b*****s at me for riding.  She always will... get used to it!

  3. I think you are to young right now.... but if you talk your mom into it Please get a small bike to learn on. I have a Honda Rebel (250) and Love it.

  4. tell her you will wear a helmet and not ride like an idiot..

Be sure to remind her to check out ride2live.com before you get one.... LOL

  5. If you are searching for a low-power bike like the Star Virago, or a highway legal scooter, then you're on the right track, otherwise your mom's right - you should not get a bike. A fast bike is dangerous in inexperienced hands.

Of the 6 persons I personally know who ride bikes everyday, 3 have been in accidents - 2 hospitalized, 1 dead. On the one that died, it was not his fault - most drivers are clueless idiots. There's a great TV ad where a driver makes a right turn onto a bike.

And don't forget to wear a helmet! Here in FL is not required, for example, someone fell making a right turn at less than 10mph and died from head injuries!

  6. It gives freedom but I'd just like to add you're too young for a motorcycle.

Your mom is right to be worried about your safety - I know I would be.

    Wait until you're 17.

  7. Similar to Malibu K's answer...and I'm more than three times your age! (ugh)

Depending on where you live and the law....start your two-wheel pursuit with a small scooter or moped. Impress dear ol' Mom with your responsibility & safety record. Always wear a helmet, don't speed, use your head when you ride, obey the traffic laws.

    Also in your defense:

    1. Mom won't have to drive you all over town.

    2. It will show Mom you can be a responsible young adult.

    3. On small scooters & mopeds top speed is about the same as riding a bike fast down a big hill! 30-35mph!

    4. Seek out a buddy or someone you know well who already rides (around your age group) and sit down with them & Mom and let them help in your case.

  8. "Youll love her forever and ever if she lets you buy one!" OR tell her it will save you money on gas and will help you avoid traffic to get to places on time! Hope for the best!

  9. Try again in 3 years when you don't need her permission.  You can't even drive a car safely, so what makes you think you can survive on a motorcycle?

I'm sure you're very strong, smart, get good grades, very responsible, etc. or whatever, just like everyone else under 20.  But it's not a video game, and there are no second chances.  I realize you don't truly understand that yet, but I suggest you wait a few years until you get some more life experience under your belt.

  10. good luck, only you know your mother...

her biggest concern is probably your safety, so if you sign up for some safety courses, she might warm up to the idea...
