Question:

Reasons why Bruce Lee would loose to Muhammad Ali?

After studying the question for months I have finally concluded that Ali takes the win in a new york minute.

Size- Ali

Speed- Bruce Lee

Strength- Ali

for somebody to say Bruce Lee could punch 7 times a second is wrong. Ali himself(a boxer) could only do 3 times a second. Bruce Lee's fastest punches around 400-500(500 is verified with his arms at his sides) Ali thought his punching speed which was faster then above was slow and was getting out of shape. Also by the laws of physics B.Lee could not kick to win. Ali fought a Martial Artist and easily doged it. Punches come faster then kicks(physics). Much more extension is needed. Also ali's arm is as long as B.Lee's leg. So kicking could not work, and ali was not slow either he could catch b.lee if it was a ring.

Bruce Lee-5'7 135 pnd

Ali 6'3 236 pnd

Lee's speed? Frames were cut to make him faster(not insult he was still fast)But ali would connect with punches long before b.lee could hit with a kick. Ali

  1. Ali could only punch 3 times per second because he had too much muscle.  It got in the way and actually slowed him down.  There was a fight science show on tv which showed, in slow motion, how a martial artist can strike up to 11 times per second.  Frames were not cut out to make Lee look faster.  Watch old black-and-white footage of Lee and you'll see that he could actually punch faster than the camera could record.  I know it's only black-and-white, but that's the only footage of Lee actually demonstrating his techniques becuase it's all they had to record it at that time.  You're trying to say that no one small can kick hard.  Yet again, watch thos fight science shows.  They've recorded small Muay Thai fighters kicking at over 3000 psi.  A boxer would have no idea of how to deal with something like that.

It also depends on the type of fight.  Ali might be able to take him in a boxing match.  Bruce Lee would win in a real fight.  Who cares if Ali was bigger?  Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better.  Look at military special forces guys.  They're pretty lean, for the most part.  But, they'll whoop any boxer's a**.  Most street fights aren't two guy just standing there punching each other in the face.  It's going to be kicking, punching, and groundfighting.  And, in response to the previous responders comment, who cares which class the person comes from?!  Making a comment like that is just plain dumb.  Especially when you take into account that martial arts are practiced all over the world and by people in every socioeconomic class.  More poor people around the world practice martial arts than boxing.  Believe it or not, I do respect boxing.  I used to box for a while.  But, it seems like a joke after you begin practising martial arts.  You learn that being bigger can be more of a hinderance than a blessing and that there is more to fighting than just striking with your hands.  Putting Bruce Lee against Ali in a street fight would be like putting Hulk Hogan against De La Hoya in a boxing match.  Hulk is bigger but De La Hoya would beat him stupid, much like Ali is bigger, but Lee would beat him stupid.

  2. how about the fact that bruce lee even ADMITTED he would lose to muhammad ali?

and the fact that if you read your information other MAists manhandled bruce lee.

namely joe lewis (not the boxer), even claimed lee was a theorist, not a fighter, and this is a man who lifted him into the air and refused to put him down and lee could do nothing....

all this c**p about punching x times a second, thats c**p unless you have any measure of proof- AND what good is striking that fast when there isn't any POWER behind it.

    EDIT:

WHERE THE h**l DO YOU THINK BOXERS COME FROM?

do you think they come from middle class white society?

h**l no boxers come from the minority classes of the time, be it italian, irish, jewish, russian, black, latino, asian whatever, most boxers come from the streets so how the h**l can anyone say they can't street fight. I have to make a seperate topic about this....

  3. Is this a boxing match?  I would see Ali could win in a boxing match but not a fight.  Fighting and boxing are so different.  No one can really with stand a Bruce Lee kick to the face...or Groin.

  4. Tut Tut  It doesn't take months to work this one out sorry lol

Boxing : Of course Ali would win in a ring with rules.

Real street fight : Bruce Lee wins No probs with no rules :)***

  5. So you are giving a 100 lb weight advantage to the boxer.  That's pretty tough to overcome.

Here are the things I would add to Bruce Lee's side of the equation that you miss...

    1) Leg kicks - Ali had fast legs, but he wasn't trained to protect them.  Enough kicks delivered to Ali's legs would negate his footwork.

    2) Grappling - Ali can only box in your match up.  Bruce Lee presumably would be allowed to use all his tools including his ability to grapple.  So there are chokes, locks, and throws that tip the scale.

    3) Elbows and knees - Lee was a crafty guy.  I presume he would want to negate Ali's reach advantage by fighting up close.  Elbows and knees from a standing clinch can do some amazing damage.

I'm not saying that Lee would win given the nearly 100lb weight disadvantage (Lee, at varying times weighed 135-150 lbs).  I am saying that if that single disadvantage were leveled out, there is no denying that Ali would lose.

I understand that Ali actually backed out of a bout with a martial artist once he started training with kickboxers.  He realized that a kickboxer simply has more tools to work with than a boxer, and the advantage goes to the person who kicks AND punches.

  6. Ali would destroy Bruce Lee.  Let me see a small actor vs. one of the greatest heavyweight boxers ever?  Yeah that is a real hard one to call.

Also Ali's speed was probably better than Bruce Lee as well.

  7. Ali already answered your question in the 1960s.

Muhammed Ali stated that if he fought Bruce Lee in the ring, Ali would win.  And if Ali fought Bruce Lee in the street, Bruce Lee would win.

  8. Ummm, because he's dead?

  9. haha funny question... and the other guy is right in boxing ali in a minute but in fighting bruce lee would win.. just because he knew all the major points of attack and was nifty in doing whatever moves he wanted... But, after all Lee wasn't the best martial arist to ever live there have been many trained fighters since and before him such as jet li who have mastered many more styles and techniques...

In conclusion I give the title to one more legendary man Indiana Jones all he has to do is shoot ya...
