Reasons why Houston Rockets new coach Kevin McHale is already on the Hot Seat: NBA Featured (Part-3)
After the 2010-2011 season, six franchise in the National Basketball Association hired new faces to take over as their new head coach. While Houston Rockets were conducting interviews to fulfil their empty coaching position, three
of the new hires had a meeting with the Rockets owner Leslie Alexander and general manager David Morey, except Mark Jackson of Golden State Warriors, Dwane Casey of Toronto Raptors and Lawrence Frank of Detroit Pistons.
Among the new hires, Los Angeles Lakers appointed Mike Brown as the successor of the hall of Famer Phil Jackson, who retired after winning 11 NBA Championships. The 53 year old Kevin McHale doesn’t have to worry about Brown, who
is going to coach one of the best teams of the league in the next season and is expected to win more than 50 games and compete for the NBA title. The Houston Rockets don’t have the level at the moment to compete Los Angeles Lakers.
However, McHale needs to make sure that the Rockets do a better job overall in the next season than Washington Wizards and Indiana Pacers who hired those coaches that were among the finalist for Houston and the franchise eventually
hired Kevin McHale.
If Rockets dip below Wizards or Pacers, Alexander might question his decision of hiring McHale over others.
Houston Rocket is a better team
Unlike Minnesota Timberwolves, the Houston Rockets is not only a better looking team on the roster; the line-up has the potential to become constant play-offs contenders. Kevin McHale will be coaching some of the vibrant players
like Kyle Lowry, Luis Scola and the scoring machine Kevin Martin to change the fate of the franchise.
Even though, the Rockets experienced a major setback after the 2010-2011 season when the big man Yao Ming announced his retirement due to his elongated injury. However Houston still carries enough potential and a superior leadership
will have the team back on the court.
During the 2011 NBA Draft, Houston Rockets drafted three young guns Marcus Morris, Donatas Motiejunas and Chandler Parsons for their first round picks. Kevin McHale will be actually put to test to transform the three rookies into
a strong unit and strengthen the supporting cast for the existing superstars. Kevin is known as a good mentor when it comes to teaching skills to the young players. All eyes will be on McHale in the next season to observe how he plans his moves for Morris,
Motiejunas and Parsons.
Restless Owner
Houston Rockets’ owner Leslie Alexander is quite discontented at the moment and is determined to take whatever decision to bring his team on a winning track. In the last two seasons, Rockets failed to clinch a play-off berth and
the things went shakier with the retirement of Yao Ming. In order to give his team a boost up at this gloomy situation, Alexander hired Boston Celtics’ Hall of Famer Kevin McHale.
With strong expectation from the new head coach, Kevin is already on the hot seat before making a debut in Houston Rockets. McHale’s first objective in his first year will be making the franchise contend for the post-season next
year. Because Alexander is anxious to see his team in the play-offs and if Kevin fails to do so, he can say good-bye to his new position.
