Reasons why Miami Heat star LeBron James will be the MVP next season – NBA Feature Part 2
Best player on the best team
The MVP award in NBA differs from that in the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB). In those sports, the player that ends with best stats is awarded the title. However, In NBA however, it is awarded to
player who makes an earth shattering impact on a stand out team in the league.
In 2005-2006, Kobe Bryant finished with a colossal 35 points per game but failed to receive the accolade. Instead the MVP was awarded to Steve Nash, who was statistically nowhere near to Bryant averaging 19 points and 11 assists
per game. The reason for it was that the Phoenix Suns finished with a much better record 54-28 than compared to the Los Angeles Lakers 45-37.
The same thing happened last season when Derrick Rose was preferred over Dwight Howard and LeBron James. Dwight was the most outstanding player the whole season and won the ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ laurel for the third time
running. However, he failed to take his team to the heights of the 2008-09 season. Rose on the other hand and led from the front to hand Chicago Bulls a league best 62-20 record.
Same was the case with LeBron James. The small forward has better stats in points scored, rebounds grabbed and blocks, however when it came to deciding about the MVP award, he was written off because his team had stars like Dwyane
Wade and Chris Bosh. Then there is case of the fans involvement and off course James’ PR didn’t do him any good. One more fact, which went against James, was that he had won two consecutive MVP’s coming into last season and the fans probably wanted to see
a new face.
The trend is likely to remain the same this time. Miami were impressive last time despite the fact that they were in a rebuilding phase. Having played a season together, players have now adjusted to the conditions and in upcoming
season, Miami are likely to end with a better record. James, especially in the playoffs, settled into more of a facilitating role – a move that perhaps turned out to be Miami’s undoing.
He and the Heat would definitely have learned from their mistakes and they will be coming hard this season. With a bit of co-ordination with Wade, James is set to have a landmark next NBA season, whenever it takes place and if
that happens, you can bet your life that James will win the MVP award.
