Reasons why Miami Heat star LeBron James will be the MVP next season – NBA Feature Part 4
Hype surrounding others has faded:
Although LeBron James finished third in voting behind Derrick Rose and Dwight Howard last season; to be honest he never had a chance to win the MVP.
He came to Miami Heat with a mindset of claiming the championship title and not the individual accolades in the first place. And then things only got worse when he had to compete with fans heartthrob Derrick Rose for the MVP.
Extra hype was given to Derrick because only in his third season, Rose was emerging as a star for Chicago Bulls and everyone’s attention diverted towards him naturally so because LeBron had already made an impact winning the award
for two straight years. According to fans, it was time for someone new.
While LeBron was struggling to get used to playing with a new set of Rosters, in the meanwhile Derrick continued his brilliance with the ball stealing the spotlight from LeBron. Other factor that aided Derrick was that he was easily
the best roster on the best team of the league.
Anyway, Derrick winning MVP is history now and the hype naturally too has died down with time. LeBron now fully settled in Miami does not have to deal with any hindrance and he can completely focus on his game.
Improvement in his overall game:
LeBron’s arsenal is already fully loaded however there is still a room for improvement. When it comes to playing post, LeBron looks ordinary and this is what he is always been criticized for. Opponents are aware of his weakness
in post and naturally they exploit it.
However, James with the help of reputed post player Hakeem Olajuwon has been working on improving his footwork this summer and it is already starting to pay him dividends. Significant improvement was seen in his play during the
exhibition matches he played this summer.
Still he needs to learn how to play with his back to basket. If he masters this art, this would make him one of the most lethal forces in NBA which to an extent he already his. It will get even tough for defenders to hold him as
he already has the speed and skills with which he can penetrate the fibrous of defences. His perimeter game has always been insufficient as until now he has relied on the passes from his team mates.
James has already indicated he wants to improve as an individual. This extended offseason might prove to be a blessing in disguise for the 6 ft 8 providing him enough time to rectify his mistakes.
One thing is for sure. He will come in to this season as a much improved player both skilfully and mentally.
