I find that Quebec is not very open to new cultures and people and thats not the way Canada is supposed to be.

Can't think of any reason unless they think they have a strong enough economic base to maintain their own sovereignty.

Right now, the politicians vying for separation (most of whom are US or UK educated) have convinced the common folk that separation would be culturally and financially wise.  In the event that they finally succeed, they will have secured their future and that of their children (who ironically also attend US educational institutions) all the while maintaing control over the lesser educated, non-english speaking losers who will vote for them.  That is the one good reason....if you are a member of the PQ

Culturally? Yes, they would be although they do have a distinct culture now

Financially? Absolutely Not. Would be a matter of a few years before they start begging Canada, the U.S., France etc. for money which they wouldn't get.

I have always been torn on the issue of separatism, ever since the 1980 Referendum as a matter of fact.

I am still not totally convinced that it is a good idea, mainly for economical reasons.

Can Quebec really survive on its own without the rest of Canada to back it up if needed, so to speak?

Of course, that remains to be seen.

A trial separation wouldn't be such a bad idea actually!
