Rebecca Adlington secures Women’s 800m freestyle crown - British Gas ASA National Championships 2011
Day three of the 2011 British Gas ASA National Championships began with the stunning performance of British legendary icon, Rebecca Adlington, in the Women’s 800m freestyle final held in Sheffield, on June 16, 2011. Adlington won the gold medal by posting
a sterling time of 8 minutes and 24.77 seconds.
Earlier this year in March, Adlington set a world record in the corresponding meet with a fastest time of 8 minutes and 20.23 seconds.
Soon after the completion of the race, Adlington said that she is excited and thrilled with her swim. She added that her aim was to clock a time under 8 minutes and 35.00 seconds, despite of the fact that the meet was supposed to be a challenging encounter.
She further said, “I’m not rested this week. By the end of the week I will have done 70km around my events so I’m aching but hopefully with a rest going into Worlds I will get down below 8.28.00.”
Placed second in the 800m freestyle category was Eleanor Faulkner, with a time of 8 minutes and 34.15 seconds, whereas, Hannah Miley wounded up third in a time of 8 minutes and 35.30 seconds.
While speaking about the upcoming championships in Chain, Adlington said, “For me the most exciting thing about Shanghai is racing the rest of the world. The last time I did that was 2009 and it is what enjoy most about swimming.”
Rebecca Adlington is the double Olympic champion of Great Britain. The swimmer has been toiling hard in competitive swimming, in order to win more gold medals in the World Championships in Shanghai.
Last year, she won two gold medals in the Women’s 400m and 800m freestyle events at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Adlington also put up inspiring performances in the European and World Championships. Her next goal is to win gold titles in the upcoming
Olympic Games in London, 2012.
All is left to see whether the British swimmer lives up to her expectations in both, the World Championships and London Olympics.
