Rebecca Adlington targets four gold medals at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships
Britain’s female swimming superstar, Rebecca Adlington, expressed her concern of winning four gold medals in her respective events at the upcoming 2011 Shanghai World Championships in July. The Olympian is considered as the best hope of British Swimming
to earn medals at the 2011 World Championships and 2012 London Olympics.
Rebecca is already the 2008 Beijing Olympics champion for the 400m and 800m freestyle events. She won the Olympic gold for the 400m freestyle in a time of 4:03.22 minutes and the 800m freestyle in a world record time of 8:14.10 minutes.
Adlington, who just won three gold medals at the 2011 British Gas Swimming Championships, has successfully qualified to represent Britain at the Shanghai World Championships in the events of 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 800m freestyle. Adlington is
hoping to repeat her performance at the World Championships this year.
While addressing a question, she said that right now her focus is entirely on the World Championships, as she is in training and her victories at the championships will boost her hopes for next year’s Olympic Games.
She said that she is not really a 200m freestyle swimmer but she was working hard on her performance, which finally paid off when she occupied a gold medal in the 200m freestyle at the British Championships, last week. Adlington commented that she found
the 4*200m freestyle relay more interesting than the individual 200m swim event. The British swimmer added that she will be looking forward to take part in the event at the World Championships.
The Olympic Champion when cited as Britain’s only hope for attaining medals at the World Championships said that there are other swimmers like Jazmin Carlin, Kate Haywood and Fran Halsall, along with male competitors like Liam Tancock, who will bring medals
home. They have won medals at the British Swimming Championships and are strong contenders for the podium at the 2011 World Championships.
The freestyle champion has a firm belief that she will win titles at the World Championships. She also has a long term goal of doubling her medals at next year's home Olympics.
