Rebecca Adlington wins Women’s 800m freestyle title: Day seven – 2011 FINA World Championships
The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games double gold medallist, Great Britain’s Rebecca Adlington, earned the title of Women’s 800m freestyle on the second last day of the 2011 Federation Internationale de Natation scheduled World Championships on Saturday, July 30,
in Shanghai, China.
Adlington defended her 800m title, by submitting a fastest time of 8 minutes and 17.51 seconds. She was followed by her following swimmer, Lotte Friis of Denmark, who stayed 0.69 seconds behind the gold medallist and reported in a time of 8 minutes and 18.20
seconds. Kate Ziegler of USA was the third finest swimmer of the final event, as she captured the bronze medal, by submitting a third fastest time of 8 minutes and 23.36 seconds.
Ziegler was followed by her team-member, Chloe Sutton, who remained 0.69 seconds behind her team-mate and produced a fourth fastest time of 8 minutes and 24.05 seconds. Boglarka Kapas of Hungary was the fifth finest swimmer of the 800m event, as she clocked
a time of 8 minutes and 24.79 seconds.
Katie Goldman of Australia was the sixth position holder, as she ended her swim in 8 minutes and 29.20 seconds. Wendy Trott of South Africa and Lauren Boyle of New Zealand concluded their swims in the seventh and eighth fastest spots, with timings of 8:30.45
and 8:32.72 minutes, respectively.
After a few minutes, USA's relay team clinched the title of Women’s 4*100m freestyle, by reporting in a time of 3 minutes and 52.36 seconds. It was followed by People’s Republic of China, who swimmers posted a combined effort of 3 minutes and 55.61 seconds
for the silver medal. Moments later, Australia's squad earned the bronze medal of the relay event, as they stayed nearly two seconds behind the silver medallists and occupied the third position in a time of 3 minutes and 57.13 seconds.
In addition, the session concluded after the laudable efforts of all participants, while the winners of each event received awards and accolades for their remarkable efforts after the session. Swimmers until now have displayed their true potential by performing
well in all their respective events.
