Rebecca Artis maintains lead in the second round of Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012
Australian Rebecca Artis maintained her lead in the second round of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012, as she posted a 71 to stand firm atop the leaderboard.
Artis, who posted her career-low 64 in the opening round of the prestigious tournament being played at Golf Gerre Losone, Switzerland, remained the star performer in the second round as well, keeping rivals at a distance.
Veronica Zorzi stunned the spectators, as she grabbed the second spot on the leaderboard by shooting a 68.
Analysts said that the second-round results reflected that big names are finding it hard to score well, but the next two rounds may turn the scenario around. They said that the defending champion, Diana Luna of Italy, consolidated her position by posting
a 70 in the second round.
Luna successfully shared the second position along with two other players, Zorzi and English Florentyna Parker.
Artis kicked off the round with the same spirit and remained strong on most of the holes. She got off to a sloppy start, as she made a bogey on the very first hole, but came back in the game with full force when she drained her first birdie on the second
hole.
On the back nine, the Aussie star shot three birdies and two bogeys.
Commentators said that the weather conditions remained almost the same, giving players a chance to make calculated putts.
They pointed out that the final two rounds are likely to take a dramatic turn, as lesser-known players are proving tough against top-ranked LET (Ladies European Tour) stars.
Artis, who recently got married, is used to playing in windy conditions, but the second day of the tournament troubled players a little.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, the rising star said that she is glad that she was able to maintain her lead in the second round, but she could have scored even better.
Explaining the difficulties she faced on Friday, Artis said that she made several careless strokes, which restricted her score to a 71, but was keen to point out that she will put her best forward in the final two rounds.
