Rebecca Curtis having big hopes on Teaforthree in Chepstow’s Coral Welsh National Handicap Chase
Trainer, Rebecca Curtis is at Chepstow with high hopes, as she saddles Teaforthree in Coral Welsh National Handicap Chase, taking place on Saturday, January 05, 2013.
In the hands of A. P. McCoy, the 9-year-old is making a huge shout. He acts on heavy, and holds an outstanding 4m Cheltenham win under his belt. Although no win has yet come to his way this term, his performance on the previous two starts was quite impressive.
Satisfied with her charge’s current momentum, Curtis is expecting Teaforthree to come up with a cracking effort in Chepstow’s Grade 3 event, which she termed as the main target.
"He is fresh and well and this has always been his target," said the trainer. "He is in great form and came out of the Hennessy really well, I hope I have got him bang on. He is a brilliant jumper and he stays forever, which is what you need round there."
A competitive field of 18 has been declared for the big meeting, which will be held over three miles, five furlongs and 110 yards. The going is heavy, which is likely to suit Teaforthree. The competition is expected to be totally exciting, as the winning
prize is worth £51,255.
This contest was originally scheduled to be held last month, but the officials had to cancel it because of the waterlogged track. The conditions are race now, but still quite demanding.
On the current racing conditions, clerk of the course Keith Ottesen explained: "The second and third fences in the back straight have been omitted, as has the middle hurdle in the back straight and first hurdle in the home straight, to avoid the worst of
the conditions.”
"We had 267mm of rain during December which, considering we have around 900mm on average in a whole year.”
Everything seems well in pace for Teaforthree, who has proved himself as a promising stayer. The son of Oscar looks in a great position to record his second mega victory. The T437-owned is not facing an easy opposition though, with Michel Le Bon and Monbeg
Dude seeking big roles.
