Rebecca Mann captures Women’s 1500m freestyle gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Rebecca Mann of Clearwater Aquatics captured gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle on last day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Saturday, August 11.
The 14-year-old Mann stunned the aquatic crowd with her dazzling form in the 30-lap freestyle event, where she showed no leniency to her opponents and rushed her way towards the wall for gold medal.
The teenager remained considerably ahead of her opponents from the start and made her way to the finishing wall for gold medal by clocking a time of 16 minutes and 14.41 seconds.
The champion was followed by Megan Rankin of Golden West Swim Club, who remained nearly 23 seconds behind and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 16 minutes and 37.10 seconds.
Rankin was trailed by Camryne Morris of North Baltimore, who remained 7.56 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and secured bronze medal of the discipline with an effort of 16 minutes and 44.66 seconds.
Similarly, Ariel Finke of Saint Petersburg remained almost 3.70 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the finishing wall with a timing of 16 minutes and 48.30 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth fastest spot of the swim was secured by Lindsay Vrooman of Indiana University, who remained one and a half body length behind and clocked a time of 16 minutes and 49.55 seconds.
Vrooman was traced by Kathryn Campbell of Swim Pasadena-CA, who was 0.37 seconds slower and posted 16 minutes and 49.92 seconds for sixth place.
Campbell was followed by Alicia Mathieu of SoNoCo Swim Club, who managed to secure seventh fastest spot of the race by producing a time of 16 minutes and 57.56 seconds.
Mathieu was chased by Autumn Finke of Saint Petersburg, who failed to upset any of her challengers and stayed 2.01 seconds apart, finishing eighth in the race with an effort of 16 minutes and 59.57 seconds.
Furthermore, Mann was overjoyed with her nerve-wrecking form in the discipline and articulated her desire of achieving the same at forthcoming swimming events.
