Rebecca Marino steps away from professional tennis – Tennis News
World number 138, Rebecca Marino, is taking a time off from the Women Tennis Association (WTA) Tour to recover from fatigue and minor injuries. She is not participating in any tournament at the moment and resting in Canada to make
sure that she doesn’t hurt her body in the process of excelling in her tennis skills.
The 21-years-old professional quoted a statement on a website of Tennis Canada. She stated, "Earlier this year, after suffering from intense physical and mental fatigue, I decided to pull out of some events and take a bit of a
break to rest and return stronger. As the days went by and became weeks, I realized I would need more than just a few days to fully recover."
She was given an opportunity to play in the Master tournament of Indian Wells and Miami but she apologized from the tournament officials and also pulled out of the tournament hosted in Charleston, S.C. There is no fix date as to
when the Canadian will make a return to the tennis circuit. Answering a question in this regard, she mentioned that she was advised to take complete rest to recover from chronic injuries and exhaustion.
The Canadian’s agent, Ross Gurney of Vancouver was also approached to receive any update about her and this is what he had to say in this regard, “Because she’s not out there defending points every week, her rankings are falling.
It’s a big decision, and the Olympics made it a more difficult one. But she’s not thinking short term. She wants to feel better physically and mentally and get right.”
Marino has played just five matches this season. She was dumped in the opening round of the ASB Classic in Auckland and only reached the second round of Moorilla Hobart International. Greta Arn of Hungary plonked her in the first
round of the Australian Open at Melbourne and the Kazakh representative, Ksenia Pervak, stood in her way in the opening match of Regions Morgan Keegan Championships.
Players usually take rest towards the end of the season. It is an strange event that someone is taking time off at the start.
