Rebecca Meyers wins Women’s 400m freestyle title - 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships
Day seven of the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships saw the impressive swim of Rebecca Meyers in Coimbra, Portugal, on Saturday, August 13.
The final session of the meet held Women’s 400m freestyle final race, in which United States’ Rebecca Meyers gave her best attempt and won the golden crown with a striking time of 4 minutes and 31.70 seconds. More importantly, Meyers beat her previous best
record of 4 minutes and 34.32 seconds, which she set last week.
After snatching the gold medal in the final meet, Meyers was really satisfied with her swim in the competition. Rebecca Meyers is determined to perform well at next year’s Olympic Games, in London. Earlier, Meyers snagged the golden crown in the Women’s
800m freestyle meet by posting a record time of 9 minutes and 16.22 seconds at the 2011 edition of the World Championships, in Shanghai.
Anna Tovsta of Ukraine took home the silver medal of the meet by posting an impressive time of 4 minutes and 36.41 seconds, whereas, Hannah Fitton of Great Britain claimed bronze in a time of 4 minutes and 39.98 seconds. Samantha Elam of United States of
America earned fourth spot in a time of 4 minutes and 41.33 seconds, while Russia’s Maria Kalimina finished fifth on the podium in a time of 4 minutes and 42.01 seconds.
Kristin Ates of United States hit the wall in 4 minutes and 42.28 seconds to finish sixth. In the meantime, Jarmila Gupta of Germany settled seventh in a time of 4 minutes and 43.53 seconds and Maria Celeste Punet of Argentina snared eighth spot in the respective
meet by posting a time of 4 minutes and 48.72 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Luca Germano won the Men’s 400m freestyle crown by a victorious time of 4 minutes and 03.09 seconds. Artur Pioro of Poland captured silver in the meet with a winning time of 4 minutes and 06.85 seconds, while Callum Ross of Great Britain
grabbed the bronze medal on the podium by submitting a striking time of 4 minutes and 09.19 seconds.
