Rebecca Pegg wins Women’s 400m freestyle title: Day two – 2011 Australian University Games
University of Queensland athlete, Rebecca Pegg gave a spectacular performance in the Women’s 400m freestyle swimming final heat on day two of the 2011 Australian University Games, in Gold Coast, Australia, on Wednesday, September 28. The session of the meet
conducted the Women’s 400m freestyle race.
In the corresponding event, Pegg hit the finishing wall in 4 minutes and 30.94 seconds to win gold medal on the podium. Nicolette Lyttle of University of Melbourne earned silver medal with a mark of 4 minutes and 36.09 seconds. Jessica Morrison of University
of Melbourne secured bronze medal on the podium with an eye catching time of 4 minutes and 36.19 seconds.
Angelica Armellini of University of Melbourne settled for fourth spot with a mark of 4 minutes and 46.60 seconds, while Laura Van of Bond University earned fifth position in 4 minutes and 53.58 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Natalie Steel of Macquarie
University earned sixth place honours with a time of 4 minutes and 53.90 seconds. Furthermore, Anna Colombi of University of Western Australia earned seventh spot in 4 minutes and 55.01 seconds. Last, but not the least, Carla Rowe of University of Canberra
settled eighth in a time of 5 minutes and 11.24 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Andrew Cameron won the Men’s 400m freestyle title by posting a winning time of 4 minutes and 08.48 seconds. Donald Cameron of Macquarie University hit the finishing wall in 4 minutes and 09.04 seconds to grab silver medal on the podium.
Meanwhile, Mark O’Donnell captured bronze medal with a dramatic time of 4 minutes and 10.86 seconds.
After all scheduled swims, the arena applauded for the mesmerising performances of all athletes, while the top-three winning contestants of the meet were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion. The 2011 Australian University Games are
certainly a great chance for young guns of Australia to prepare themselves hard for upcoming heats.
The event is set to conclude on September 30 after the completion of all swimming meets.
