Rebecca Romero, the one to keep an eye on - TurfTV Handicap at Newmarket
Rebecca Romero has been raising her game day by day, and her latest fourth at Newbury suggested that she should not be ignored in the TurfTV Handicap at Newmarket on Thursday, August 16th.
After a couple of unlucky rides at th start of this season, Rebecca Romero turned things around, and sealed a comfortable victory at Bath. Despite not getting off to an impressive start, Denis Coakley’s trainee did well to keep herself prominent in the hands
of Richard Hughes.
She quickened well in the final 120 yards, and took a decent lead ahead of the wire. Following a classy act, the daughter of Exceed And Excel ensured the top rank by one and a quarter lengths.
She was an unlucky loser last time, when finishing fourth in a tough battle. In the Bathwick Tyres Handicap, she made a wonderful finish, but missed the third place by half a length.
Although she could not produce a positive result, the performance was solid enough to believe she can disturb the judge today. On good to firm, eleven quality runners will compete for a handy prize of £4,528. The 5-furlong affair is due to be kicked off
at 16:55 GMT.
Another fantastic improver is Sunny Side Up, trained by Richard Fahey. Winning two of previous three races is enough to prove her ability to produce good results consistently. She was a comfortable winner at Pontefract earlier this month, when beating Rio's
Girl by one and a quarter lengths in the Chaplins Club Handicap.
The 3-year-old remains open to further improvement, and comes here on top of her game. So, one can expect her to come up with a thrilling performance today.
Macdillon did well on last two occasions, but a lot more is needed to thrive today. Diman Waters has not run well since Ayr success, and we don’t expect him to do anything special, as he is high in weights.
The race revolves around Sunny Side Up and Rebecca Romero. The latter is recommended to those interested in making a brave move. We wish the best of luck to all the runners.
