Rebecca Soni and Inge Dekker impress at the 2011 FINA World Championships
Rebecca Soni of United States and Inge Dekker of Netherlands put up a thrilling splash at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China. The session of the championships conducted the Women’s 100m breast-stroke and 50m butterfly finals. Soni won the
100m breast-stroke crown, whereas, Dekker captured the 50m butterfly title of the meet.
In the beginning, Rebecca Soni hit the wall in 1 minute and 05.05 seconds to clinch the Women’s 100m breast-stroke title. After the finale meet, Soni said, “I'm really happy with the time. It is hard but I never try to think about it, as I did not want to
put pressure on me. Just go out and race, and enjoy it. I'm pretty confident, and I'll keep working.”
Earlier, Soni took home three gold medals in Women’s 50m, 100m and 200m breast-stroke meets at the 2010 editions of the championships, in Dubai. In addition, Rebecca notched the golden crown in the Women’s 100m breast-stroke race at the 2009 edition of the
meet, in Rome. Furthermore, she snatched the 200m breast-stroke crown at the 2008 edition of the Olympics, in Beijing.
In the corresponding meet, Leisel Jones of Australia earned silver title with a winning time of 1 minute and 06.25 seconds. While speaking about her splash, Jones said, “I'm a little disappointed but I'm happy that I got a silver medal. I'm pretty happy.
Rebecca is going fast in the semifinal. I'm the second, and I'm super happy about it. There's so much work to do. I'm really looking forward to next year.”
China’s Ji Liping snared bronze title on the podium by submitting a time of 1 minute and 06.52 seconds. Meanwhile, Yuliya Efimova of Russia finished fourth in the platform by posting a time of 1 minute and 06.56 seconds and China’s Ye Sun settled fifth in
a time of 1 minute and 07.08 seconds.
The Women’s 50m butterfly crown was taken over by Netherlands’ Inge Dekker with an impressive time of 25.71 seconds. Moreover, Dekker won the 4x100m freestyle title of the meet. Earlier, she picked the 4x100m freestyle crown at the 2006 edition of the championships,
in Shanghai.
Additionally, Dekker snared two golden crowns in the Women’s 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle finals at the 2008 edition of the competition, in Manchester. In the 4x100m meet, Inge snared twp gold medals at the 2009 and 2010 editions of the meet, in Rome and
Dubai, respectively.
Therese Alshammar of Sweden won the silver medal on the podium by submitting an impressive time of 25.76 seconds, while Melanie Henique of France earned the bronze medal by posting a time of 25.86 seconds. China’s Ying Lu wound up fourth on the podium in
a time of 25.87 seconds.
Yuka Kato rounded out the top five in a time of 26.02 seconds, while Dana Vollmer finished seventh in a time of 26.06 seconds. Vollmer snared two gold medals in the 100m butterfly and 4x100m medley finals at the 2011 edition of the championships. Last, but
not the least, Marieke Guehrer of Australia finished eighth in the respective meet by submitting a time of 26.21 seconds.
