Rebecca Soni captures Women’s 200m breast-stroke preliminary meet – 2011 FINA World Championships
Rebecca Soni of United States produced a stunning performance on day five of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Wednesday, July 27. The session of the championship conducted the Women’s 200m breast-stroke preliminary event, where Soni
staggered the crowd and topped the race with a winning time of 2 minutes and 23.30 seconds.
Soni previously won three gold medals at the 2010 edition of the championships, in Dubai. She nabbed one gold medal at the 2009 edition of the meet, in Rome. Additionally, Soni grabbed one golden crown in the 200m breast-stroke category, at the 2008 Olympic
Games, in Beijing. She now looks confident to notch her second gold title in the following category of the current editions of the meet.
While speaking about her performance in the respective meet, Soni said, “My goal today was not to let any pressure get in my way. I really did nothing but focus on my race today.”
Rikke Pedersen of Denmark was placed second with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 25.86 seconds, while Yuliya Efimova of Russian secured third spot with an impressive time of 2 minutes and 25.98 seconds. Amanda Beard of United States wound up fourth on the
podium with a time of 2 minutes and 26.73 seconds.
Marina Urzainque Garcia of Spain earned the fifth place honours in a time of 2 minutes and 26.96 seconds. Sally Foster of Australia finished sixth in 2 minutes and 27.07 seconds, while Annamay Pierse of Canada settled seventh in a time of 2 minutes and 27.14
seconds. The eighth place went to Pierse’s team-mate, Martha Mccabe, after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 27.16 seconds.
Nadja Higl of Serbia finished eleventh in 2 minutes and 27.39 seconds, while Yeon Su Back of Korea settled twelfth in a time of 2 minutes and 27.43 seconds. In addition, the arena was impressed with the performance of all swimmers, while the winners will
be awarded with medals after the final rounds of the swim.
