Rebecca Soni clinches Women’s 100m breast-stroke gold: Day two – 2011 USA Swimming Winter Nationals, Atlanta
Rebecca Soni of Trojan Swim Club clinched gold medal of the Women’s 100m breast-stroke on day two of the 2011 USA Swimming Winter Nationals in Atlanta on Friday, December 2nd.
The 24-year-old Soni entered the final round as top fastest swimmer. She faced severe competition from her team-member, Jessica Hardy in the playoff but she sustained her position and claimed gold medal of the event.
She clocked a time of 1 minute and 05.83 seconds for gold medal. She was followed by 24-year-old Hardy, who remained 0.72 seconds slower and reached the podium for silver medal by posting an effort of 1 minute and 06.55 seconds. The third spot of the race was owned by Yuliya Efimova of Una Troj-CA, who remained 1.09 seconds slower and reported a time of 1 minute and 07.64 seconds.
Martha McCabe of Van. Dolphins surfaced as the fourth position holder of the event as she hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 08.30 seconds. She remained only 0.01 seconds ahead of Tucson Ford Deal’s Amanda Beard and Oak’s Te Van Beilen, who touched the finishing end with an identical time of 1 minute and 08.31 seconds for fifth position.
Moments later, Brendan Hansen of Longhorn Aquatics earned gold medal of Men’s equivalent event with a timing of 1 minute and 00.31 seconds. He was followed by Marcus Titus of Tucson Ford Deal, who remained just 0.35 seconds behind and submitted a time of 1 minute and 00.66 seconds for silver medal.
The bronze medal of the event was seized by Mihail Alexandrov of Una Troj-CA, who emerged on the finishing wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.88 seconds.
Mark Gangloff completed his breast-stroke swim in fourth place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 01.08 seconds. He was 0.10 seconds ahead of Kosuke Kitajima of Coca Cola Japan, who completed his swim in fifth place with an effort of 1 minute and 01.18 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all scheduled events while the winners collected their accolades after the completion of session.
