Rebecca Soni clinches Women’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day two – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Rebecca Soni of Trojan Swim Club clinched gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Friday, May 11.
The 25-year-old Soni, who made her way into the playoff as top contender for gold medal, outsmarted her challengers in the double lap breaststroke discipline.
With her invincible efforts, she enjoyed a comfortable lead over her following swimmer and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 05.85 seconds.
Her scintillating effort remained almost two seconds faster from Jessica Hardy of Trojan Swim Club, who emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 07.52 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Micah Lawrence of SwimMAC Carolina, who remained almost half a second behind and hit the finishing end for bronze medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 08.06 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Rebecca Ejdervik of Gold Medal-AZ, who stayed 1.40 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 09.46 seconds for fourth position.
The 24-year-old Ejdervik remained 0.38 seconds faster from her subsequent challenger, Caitlin Leverenz of Una CAL-PC, who finished fifth in the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 09.84 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was secured by Annie Zhu of North Baltimore, who remained almost 0.70 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 10.58 seconds.
Zhu was chased by Corrie Clark of Una NLAC-MA, who stayed almost two seconds behind and clocked a time of 1 minute and 12.21 seconds for seventh position.
Finally, Lisa Blackburn of T2 Aquatics-FL secured eighth best spot of the event as she finished her swim in a time of 1 minute and 13.18 seconds.
Furthermore, the session came to an end after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts in the 100m event at the medal ceremony of the championship.
