Rebecca Soni of USA clinched the title of Women’s 800m freestyle on day six of the 2011 World Championships, organised by Federation Internationale de Natation on Friday, July 29, in Shanghai, China.
Soni won the gold medal of the event in a fabulous time of 2 minutes and 21.47 seconds. Her time was 1.35 seconds above the world record of 2 minutes and 20.12 seconds, set by Annamay Pierse of CANADA at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
She was followed by Yuliya Efimova of Russia, who remained just 0.75 seconds behind the gold medallist and occupied second position in the event, with a timing of 2 minutes and 22.22 seconds. She was trailed by Martha McCabe of Canada, who was considerably
behind her preceding swimmers, as she stayed 2.59 seconds behind Efimova and settled on the podium for the bronze medal, with a timing of 2 minutes and 24.81 seconds.
Sun Ye of China was the fourth fastest swimmer of the four-lap breast-stroke event, as she remained 0.28 seconds behind the bronze medallist and posted a time of 2 minutes and 25.09 seconds. Moments later, Rie Kaneto of Japan emerged as the fifth finest

Nadja Higl of Serbia claimed the sixth fastest spot of the event, by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 25.93 seconds. Her effort was 0.63 seconds away from her foregoing competitor, Rikke Pedersen of Denmark, who completed her swim in a seventh fastest
