Rebecca Soni grabs Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day three – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Rebecca Soni of Trojan Swim Club grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on third day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Saturday, May 12.
The 25-year-old Soni continued her winning streak and smothered hopes of her rivals by securing gold medal of the 200m event.
With her epic start, she gained a prominent lead over her challengers and hit the wall for gold medal by posting a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 22.22 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Micah Lawrence of SwimMAC Carolina, who was 2.40 seconds slower and clocked a nice time of 2 minutes and 24.62 seconds for silver medal.
Lawrence was chased by Caitlin Leverenz of Una CAL-PC, who was nearly three seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 27.14 seconds.
Leverenz was chased by Ariana Kukors of Bolles School-FL, who was substantially slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 29.46 seconds.
On the other hand, Eric Shanteau impressed the audience by winning gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke. The 28-year-old Shanteau proved his supremacy over his challengers and emerged on the finishing wall for gold medal by posting a time of 2 minutes
and 09.72 seconds.
He was chased by Brendan Hansen of Longhorn Aquatics, who accomplished silver medal of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.74 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Hansen’s team-member, Christian Schurr, who stayed almost four seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.03 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Elliot Keefer of SwimMAC Carolina, who remained 0.42 seconds slower from him and settled on the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 15.45 seconds.
In addition, the crowd appreciated commendable efforts of all participants of the 200m event while the medal winners received awards and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
