Rebecca Soni secures Women’s 100m breast-stroke title: Day three - 2011 FINA World Championships
United States’ Rebecca Soni won the Women’s 100m breast-stroke meet on day three of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Tuesday, July 26.
In the subsequent meet, Soni put up a wonderful show and snagged the golden crown with a triumphant time of 1 minute and 05.05 seconds. While revealing about her impressive performance in the final, Soni said, “I'm really happy with the time. It is hard
but I never try to think about it, as I did not want to put pressure on me. Just go out and race, and enjoy it. I'm pretty confident, and I'll keep working.”
Previously, Rebecca won three gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m breast-stroke events at the 2010 editions of the meet, in Dubai. Besides, she also snared one gold medal in the 100m breast-stroke category at the 2009 edition of the Championships, in Rome.
Moreover, Soni grabbed the golden crown in the 200m breast-stroke at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing.
Meanwhile, Leisel Jones of Australia captured the silver medal with an impressive time of 1 minute and 06.25 seconds. After the final, Jones stated, “I'm a little disappointed but I'm happy that I got a silver medal. I'm pretty happy. Rebecca is going fast
in the semifinal. I'm the second, and I'm super happy about it. There's so much work to do. I'm really looking forward to next year.”
Jones has clinched three gold medals in both the 2005 and 2007 editions of the meet, in Montreal and Melbourne, respectively. Additionally, she snared two gold medals in the 100m breast-stroke and 4x100m medley finals at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing.
Ji Liping of China sneaked through to win the bronze medal in a time of 1 minute and 06.52 seconds. Earlier, Liping notched the bronze medal in the following race, at the 2010 editions of the meet, in Dubai. Yuliya Efimova of Russia wound up fourth in 1
minute and 06.56 seconds, whereas, Ye Sun of China was placed fifth in a time of 1 minute and 07.08 seconds.
