American specialist, Rebecca Soni shattered world record in the semi-finals of Women’s 200m breaststroke on day five of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Wednesday, August 1.
The 25-year-old Soni demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the four-lap breaststroke event as she lowered the world mark of the discipline.
With her nerve-wrecking pace, she stayed two and a half body length ahead of her following swimmer and qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 20.00 seconds.
Her fastest qualification effort was trailed by Rikke Pedersen of Denmark, who stayed 2.23 seconds slower and made her way to the finishing end as second best swimmer with an effort of 2 minutes and 22.23 seconds.
Pedersen was chased by Satomi Suzuki of Japan, who remained 0.17 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing blockade as third fastest swimmer by producing a time of 2 minutes and 22.40 seconds.
Fourth best qualification spot of the race was secured by Iuliia Efimova of Russian Federation, who stayed almost half body length slower and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 23.02 seconds.
Subsequently, Efimova was followed by Suzaan van Biljon of South Africa, who stayed 0.19 seconds slower and touched the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 23.21 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Micah Lawrence of USA, who remained 0.18 seconds slower and concluded her sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 23.39 seconds.
Lawrence was traced by Martha McCabe of Canada, who stayed 0.70 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 24.09 seconds  for seventh place.
Similarly, McCabe was trailed by Sally Foster of Australia, who remained prominent for eighth finest spot of the event as she tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 24.46 seconds.
Soni received a huge round of applause from the crowd for her record-shattering performance and articulated that she would try to achieve the same in final.
