Rebecca Turner grabs Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day four – British Gas Swimming Championships
Rebecca Turner of Co Sheffield grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, March 6.
The British Championship serves as a selection trial for the Great Britain’s squad that will compete at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 19-year-old Turner acquired gold medal of the four-lap freestyle discipline as she touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 57.65 seconds. The gold medallist remained 0.42 seconds ahead of Loughborough University’s Caitlin McClatchey, who finished
second in the discipline by clocking 1 minute and 58.07 seconds.
Eleanor Faulkner of Co Sheffield claimed bronze medal of the 200m discipline as she completed her swim in 1 minute and 58.39 seconds.
In the meantime, Loughborough University’s Joseph Roebuck occupied gold medal of Men’s 200m butterfly by clocking a time of 1 minute and 55.94 seconds. With his immaculate effort, he remained 0.16 seconds ahead of his teammate, Roberto Pavoni, who settled
on the finishing blockade for second position by reporting 1 minute and 56.10 seconds.
Pavoni was chased Stockport Mo’s Michael Rock, who was just 0.38 seconds away from overpowering the efforts of his foregoing competitor and ended third with the timing of 1 minute and 56.48 seconds.
The third event of the session was Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM), where Hannah Miley served notice of her talent and clinched gold medal of the discipline by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 10.77 seconds.
The champion remained in a lead of almost one second over Stockport Mo’s Sophie Allen, who secured the medal rostrum for second position by ending her race in a time of 2 minutes and 11.71 seconds. The silver medallist stayed 0.60 seconds ahead of Co Leicester’s
Sophie Smith, who stepped on the victory stand for third position by tapping the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.31 seconds.
The session completed after the conclusion of all scheduled events whereas the winners collected accolades for their undisputed efforts after the session. Furthermore, the championship will end on March 10 after the completion of all listed events.
