Rebekkah Brunson helps Minnesota Lynx beat Seattle Storm, 81-74: WNBA Recap
Forward Rebekkah pounded her fourth consecutive double-double as Minnesota Lynx stumped the defending champion Seattle Storm, 81-74, on Thursday night at Key Arena. It was the second consecutive victory for Lynx in the Women National
Basketball Association (WNBA) season 2011.
Brunson had a team-high 22 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, shooting 9-for-11 from the field. She was in her groove from the very tip off and scored 11 points, on a 5-of-6 shooting, and eight rebounds in the first quarter.  Seimone
Augustus added 17 points and four rebounds while Lindsay Whalen finished with 13 points and a game-high 10 assists in the victory.
Forward Camille Little added 10 points and 6 rebounds for Lynx, who snapped Storm’s 22-game home winning streak. Sue Bird led Seattle with a game-high 24 pints, shooting 10-for-22 from the field, and three assists.
Forward Swin Cash had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Lauren Jackson, the three-time MVP, could not find her rhythm this time and finished the night with nine points only.
Minnesota made a quick start and scored the first 22 points of the game. Seattle went scoreless until Jackson came around with her turnaround jumper with 2:57 remaining in the opening quarter. The Lynx outshined Storm 8-28 in the
first quarter.
Brunson scored 18 of her 22 points in the first half as the Lynx stretched their lead to 50-24 at halftime - their biggest advantage of the game. The third saw an even battle allowing Lynx to maintain their advantage.
Trailing by 26 points after three quarters, Bird scored 16 points of her 24 points in the fourth quarter as Storm managed to cut the deficit to six points with 29 seconds to in the quarter. However, Minnesota made six straight
free throws in the last 28 seconds of the game to walk away with the victory.
Bird, the top scorer of the game, acknowledged that the defeat was the entire result of the nasty performance of the team and said, “That was just a poor performance.” "We came back but that doesn't mean much. However, the world
did not end. I will get up tomorrow. We all will. That's the beauty of the season."
