Rebekkah Brunson helps Minnesota Lynx down Tulsa Shock - WNBA Recap
Staring at an eight point deficit, Minnesota Lynx came back from behind to beat Tulsa Shock 92-83 at the Target Centre in Minneapolis yesterday night. The win helped Lynx (21-4) continue their excellent form for the season which
has made them the top team in the Western Conference tables.
While Maya Moore and Lindsay Whalen both scored 19 points, Rebekkah Brunson was the major feature for the Lynx with her double-double of 19 points, all from the two point range, and 11 rebounds. All five starters scored in double
figures as Minnesota registered their eighth straight win of the season and 11th straight against the Shock.
Although equal in the turnover corner (9), Tulsa Shock gave away 20 free throws of which the Lynx scored 17 while the Lynx themselves gave away only 12.
Both teams started off the game evenly which the score pretty much remained level until a seven point unanswered run by the Shock gave them a crucial advantage, which eventually closed the first quarter in their favour. Keyed by
Riquna Williams (21 points) and Ivory Latta (19 points), Tulsa continued to press in the second quarter and took an 8-point at 56-48 by half time.
Minnesota stormed back into the game after the break courtesy of a 9-0 run at the start of the third quarter, which gave them a one point lead at 57-56.
Minnesota went ahead when Moore scored two three-pointers within a minute to give them a seven point lead with a little over a minute remaining in the end of the quarter.
Brunson and Augustus combined for another 6-point unanswered run to take the game further away from the Shock at 83-67. Tulsa did try to come back in to the game but Lynx kept on scoring in response making it impossible for Tulsa
to make a strong come back.
An inspired Minnesota side has had another great season after winning the finals last year with most of their starting lineup in great touch especially players like Seimone Augustus averaging 17.1 points and Maya Moore 15.5 points
per game for the season. The Lynx now play the number 2 side Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday at home.
