Rebekkah Brunson leads Minnesota Lynx to a 75-65 win over Tulsa Shock - WNBA Recap
Forward Rebekkah Brunson had her third consecutive double-double as Minnesota Lynx beat the Tulsa Shock 75-65 on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center.
Brunson erupted with a game-high 17 points and 15 rebound, shooting 6-for-9 from the field. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve praised the sizzling performance of Brunson and said, "She is just relentless. She does not know any other way."
"Her play is contagious."
Guard Lindsay Whalen also had 16 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Whalen was perfect from the charity stripe and made all 10 of her free-throw attempts. Monica Wright came off the bench with 10 points in the second straight
victory of Minnesota. Rookie forward Maya Moore, who scored 16 points in her home debut, could not find her rhythm this time and ended with just seven points and seven rebounds. The No. 1 draft pick was miserable from the field and converted just 2-of-10.
Centre Liz Cambage headed Tulsa with 16 points, a game-high 15 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Ivory Latta had 11 points and five rebounds while guard Andrea Riley added 10 points for the Shock, who lost their second straight.
Lynx got off to a terrific start, limiting Tulsa to just 3-for-18 in the first quarter. Shock were able to make just one of their first 12 shots as the Lynx carried a huge 24-8 lead into the second. Trailing by 16 points, Tulsa
made a comeback in the second quarter and managed to decrease the deficit to five points at the end of the quarter. However, Lynx made a late surge and carried an 11-point lead, 39-28, into the interval.
Minnesota started the second half from where they left the first. They completely stifled the offensive system of the Shock, reducing them to just 12 points. On the front court, Lynx scorched the opposition with a 21 point foray
as they widened their lead to 60-40, heading into the final stanza.
Staring at a 20-point deficit after three, Shock opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run to trim the margin to 13 points. Augustus however knocked down a jumper and followed it with a driving lay-up make it 64-47 for Minnesota.
Shock reeled off a 14-5 run to cut the deficit to eight points. But, by the time the run was capped, there was only 01:11 remaining in the game. It got worse for Shock when Whalen responded with 4 free throws and Moore hit a pair
of free throws to stretch the lead to 75-63. Shock managed to knock a two in the 14 seconds that were left and lost the game by 10 points.
