Rebels’ half-back pair Danny Cipriani, Nick Phipps remains with them for now – Rugby news
In the ongoing 2011 season, Melbourne Rebel became the 15th team to play in the SANZAR super rugby championship.
With their inclusion last year, Super 14 changed into Super XV. With their inclusion not only the overall name of Super XV is looking more eye catchy, Rebels too have justified their inclusion.
In certain moments, the Rebels can be simply termed as marvellous and yet on the other occasions it can be termed as sloppy. In fact, this is probably the best continuum scale to measure the teams and players performance. However, some players in the Rebels
line-up have been consistent in their performance for them. Courtesy of these players, Melbourne Rebels were able to leave mark on the other teams in their first season.
Two of such players are in a great supporting role as they form the Rebels Half Back pair. This includes Melbourne Rebels Fly Half Danny Cipriani and their Scrum Half Nick Phipps. Without their services, Melbourne Rebels would be very ordinary outfit and
most importantly, their on-field performance will suffer greatly.
As Melbourne Rebels were enjoying a BYE during the round 09 of the Super XV, the news of Danny Cipriani and Nick Phipps kept Rebels in headlines.
Danny Cipriani with his impressive performance so far in the season while featuring a relatively weaker team has made certain European Clubs to hunt for him. Meanwhile, Nick Phipps in addition to the European Clubs have also been considered by Waratahs.
Waratahs Number 09, Luke Burgess is due to leave to France and Phipps have been considered as his possible replacement. Rebels Fly Half is also their top scorer so far in the Super XV so far with 68 points. Cipriani so far has kicked 15 penalties, 09 conversions
and also had a try on his name.
While commenting on the reports of the possible switching the key players of his side, Rebels coach Rod Macqueen said, “I think you'll find Phipps and Cipriani are pretty secure, they're pretty happy with where they are and we're pretty happy obviously with
the way they're playing at the moment.”
As things stand, Rebels would have the services of their star Half Back pair. Rebels have already secured their first ever away win as they defeats the Western Force at Perth. Rebels on the weekend will face another stiff challenge, as they will take on
the Auckland Blues at Eden Park. Rebels’ players who still are relatively new will certainly learn a lot by playing in front of big crowd.
