Rebels succession planning for Super Rugby 2012 – Rugby news
Melbourne Rebels are playing in their first ever-super rugby season and have already planned for their Super Rugby 2012.
For Rebels the plan is simple which is to identify the best available talent, understand their qualities, get them on board, invest on them and develop them.
Rebels have won three games in the season so far after starting rather poorly. Waratahs thrashed them 43 – 0 in their opening match of the season. However, Rebels came back well to register two wins at AAMI Park. Rebels have also secured their first away
win in the super rugby competition as they defeated the Western Force in Perth during earlier rounds.
Rebels understandably are in the process of developing a team and with effective succession planning, they promise to improve their results in next year’s super rugby competition. Rebels are fortunate enough to have the services of Rod Macqueen, former Wallaby
coach that lead the wallabies to world championship.
Melbourne Rebels have signed the best available young talent in the country. Rebels are looking to recruit more Australian players and lesser foreign players for their next seasons.
While Rebels Nick Phipps and Hugh Pyle have agreed to extend their contract with the Melbourne Rebels, Rebels have also booked Waratahs Kurtley Beale and Western Force James O’ Connor.
Rebels current side has also some remarkable players and have played as far better side that some other sides in the Australian Conference. Rebels are currently at the third position in the Australian Conference.
With respect to the future planning Macqueen commented, “Our goal is to end up with a lot more Australian players and to develop the team as we go, have succession planning in place and bring the young players through. That's what this team's all about.”
While Melbourne Rebels has not confirmed the joining of the Western Force’s James O’Connor, formal confirmation expected on Monday.
Rebels’ performance in Super XV is the main attraction for players from teams like Western Force etc. Rebels in their first year of super rugby competition has delivered some exceptional results and for players like O’Connor and Beale who are looking to
make a name for themselves provide them with the opportunity to achieve their aspirations.
Rebels have provided the same opportunity to Danny Cipriani and he has been phenomenal so far. Under all sorts of pressure, Cipriani found his form since he joined Rebels.
Rebels are on course for an impressive 2012 super rugby campaign. The good thing about the proactive planning is that they have the time to work on the players individually and to integrate their individual skills into a team’s perspective. With such ingredients
in their team, nothing can stop Rebels of becoming a formidable unit in SANZAR.
