Recap, Atlanta Hawks crushed Cleveland Cavaliers
Hats off to Atlanta Hawks, they remain the Eastern Conference’s only unbeaten team after defeating the Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland. Loaded with young and improving stars, Atlanta Hawks dominated Cavaliers in the basketball court 100–88. The
past performance of Hawks just might be good enough to make a run at a National Basketball Association (NBA) title.
Discussed below are the major highlights of the tussle:
First Quarter
J.J Hickson gains possession and remained the starter of the match by adding 2 points for Cavaliers at a turnaround jump shot. Marvin Williams scored the first point for Hawks.
Hickson remained the prominent player of Cavaliers, added 10 points for his team. Cool as a cucumber, Maurice "Mo" Williams caught fire by the middle of the first quarter and added 5 points for the team. Anthony Parker scored 5 points and Ryan Hollins added
2 points for Cavaliers.
At the Hawks end, Marvin Williams remained the prominent player in the first quarter and scored 10 points. Joe Johnson (8 PTS), Michael "Mike" Bibby (6 PTS), Jamal Crawford (6 PTS) and Al- Horford added 4 points for Hawks by the end of the first quarter.
At the end of first session, Hawks were domineering by 40–27.
Second Quarter
Hickson continued to be the highest scorer for Cavaliers even in the second quarter of the game and added a further 8 points. Hollins scored 4 and Daniel Gibson scored 2 points for Cavaliers.
Williams and Smith scored 4 points each for Hawks in the second quarter. Johnson further added 3 points. Horford and Crawford added 2 points each for the Hawks.
At the end of second quadrant, Hawks kept leading 59–47.
Third Quarter
During the third quarter, Jamario Moon, Williams, and Hollins played well for Cavaliers and added 4 points individually. Parker scored 3 points and Varejao scored 2 points for Cavaliers.
Harford led Hawks in the third quarter by adding 6 more points. Mike Bibby was at number two with 5 points. Crawford and Williams added 2 points each.
Claviers played the third quarter fantastically and remained authoritative at the scoreboard by 73–74. Claviers were leading by one point.
Fourth Quarter
Hickson accelerated himself in the final phase of the fourth quarter and added 6 points for Cavaliers. Gibson scored 4 points, Williams scored 3 points, and Parker added 2 points for the Cavaliers.
Crawford and Williams were the active players for the Hawks during the fourth quarter and they provided their team with 6 points each. Horford and Johnson scored 4 points each and Bibby added 3 points for Hawks.
Hawks played the fourth quarter well enough and uprooted Cavaliers by 100–88.
Marvin Williams to be the best scored the highest 22 points for Hawks and Hickson playing incredibly scored 31 points for the Cavaliers.
Quotable
Although, Cavaliers lost the match, their coach, Byron Scott remained the man of confidence as he proudly praised the performance of his team "I'm very proud of the way our guys played, especially after the first quarter (when the Hawks led 40-27). We had
some bad plays on both ends at the end of the game, but I love the effort. That's what we have to do for the rest of the season".
The coach of Hawks, Larry Drew seemed to be short of words to appreciate his team, "The sense I am getting from the players is they are really starting to feel good about themselves and buy into what we're doing".
