Recap CEV European Women’s Volleyball Championship 2010: Serbia vs. Czech Republic
The women’s national teams from Serbia and Czech Republic thumped together in the crossed semi-final of CEV European Volleyball Championship 2010 last Saturday. The teams reached this crucial stage with a lot of hard-work and dedication.
The host Serbia made a difference and outplayed Czech Republic in straight sets. They claimed 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, and 28-26) victory over visitor team and qualified for the final of CEV European Volleyball Championship 2010. Around 600 spectators witnessed the incredible performance of Serbia.
Serbia opened the game with smashing hits and powerful serves, which totally dominated the Czech Republicans. Sara Klisura demonstrated excellent game and helped the team’s score to go higher. Serbia built a lead of 7 points at the second technical timeout (TTO). The Republicans couldn’t stand on their feet and produced shaky spikes, which were easily dismantled by Serbs. The head coach of Czech Ales Novak called a timeout and instructed the players to overcome their flaws. The coach’s guideline worked for the Czech team and they were able to save next few points.
In the meantime, the Czech spikers hit better shots and added four points to team’s score. As the game progressed, they lost grip on the ball and repeated same mistakes. The Serbian players got full advantage of the situation and stretched the gap of points. The Serbian Mina Tomic and Jovana Stevanvic devastated the Czech Republican’s defence. They extended the score to set point and posted 25-17 points’ win over opponents in the first set.
The Czech Republic’s team entered the second set and played with an average pace. They had lost the opening set and Serbian team looked more confident in the second set. Republicans paid attention to their defence and hindered Serbia’s score. Czech setter Pavla Vincourova produced perfect serves, which landed in Serbian half. Czech Republic led the second set with a score of 10-5 before second technical timeout.
Serbian ladies showed great fighting spirit and struggled to regain a commanding position in the game but Czech players kept their leading role in second set. The small reception errors of Serbs added more anxiety in the game. At the end of second technical timeout, Serbia was still trailing behind Czech Republic by five points. After the 2nd TTO, Serbia got a little hope with Stevanovic’s shot. Ana Bjelica contributed to team’s score with powerful serves and put the team back on track.
Serbs stay put on the same course and tied the set at 19-19. The levelled score restored their confidence, and they moved forward with great speed. Serbia attained two points and left the opposite team behind. A service mistake of Czech players gave way to the Serbian success in second set.
The two-set defeat didn’t let the Czechs down, and they started the third set with a new resolution. The consistency in serving and handling the ball helped them lead the third set. The Czech outside-hitter (OH) created a lot of problem for the Serbian blockers. Czech’s Barbora Gambova helped 14-8 lead over host Serbia.
On the other side of the court, Serbia’s team tried to poise their feet in the court. They demonstrated good game and managed to steal points from Czech Republic. Serbians tied the score at 20-20 but Republicans immediately jumped to 22. Serbs chased the score and tied the game again. No side was ready to accept defeat and both struggled with their score. The score was levelled at 23-23 and 26-26 creating a bit of frenzy in the game. Finally, Serbia got a chance to put an end to this set with cruising spike. The third set was finished at the 28-26 with Serbian victory in the semi-final match. Serbia reached the final of CEV European Championship 2010 by defeating Czech Republic.
