The hounds were divided into two separate groups for the two qualifying rounds, the males in one group, and the females in the other. Three hounds from each group qualified for the final.
Big Black Panda came in as the 15-8 race favourite and didn’t disappoint. He raced from trap one, stuck to the rails and earned a slim victory over Glebe House with a time of 28.36 seconds.
Panda won his first round heat easily, but finished in second behind Mullpark Flash in the semi-final. Flash raced well in the final, taking third place.
Glebe squeaked into the semi-final with a third place finish in the first round, but then won her semi-final over Darjina by ¾ lengths. She held the lead in the final after getting off to a great start,
but couldn’t hold it as Panda passed her as they neared the finish line.
Darjina, the biggest longshot of the race at 7-1, finished in fourth place ¾ lengths behind Flash.
Fifth went to Daves Duke, and in last was Newtown Ruby, who had a very slow start and then baulked on the first bend.
5th Leg Pick 6 Jackpot
The fifth leg of the Pick 6 was an A1 race worth £114. The winner, Rent Relief, was a late addition to the race as Gerry Rob John was pulled from the fourth trap.
Relief came in at 7-1, but surprised the field with a very quick start. He took the lead early, and managed to keep ahead of Smooth Ace, who did his best to catch the lead hound. Relief finished in first
place by a head over Ace with a time of 28.40. Ace finished with a time of 28.41.
Freaky Patch stayed close to the leaders, and finished in third place, a neck behind Ace. In fourth was the 5-4 race favourite, District Nine, who got off to a good start, and had little trouble on the
bends, but just couldn’t catch the top three dogs. He finished ¾ lengths behind Patch.
In fifth was Swift Dazzler, and in last place was Cloncunny Dubh. Both Dazzler and Dubh got off to good starts, and neither encountered any difficulty, they just weren't able to compete in this race.
