Recap: Coral On TV Standard Trophy heats
Romford hosted three heats of the Coral On TV Standard Trophy Monday night. The top two hounds from each heat advanced to the final, which is scheduled for Friday night.
Coral On TV Standard Trophy - Heat 1
It was Lainedans Flyer winning the first heat despite baulking close to the finish line. Flyer briefly lost the lead, but managed to recover, and beat Altmore Panther by a length with a time of 23.98 seconds. Panther got off to the best start of the group,
and will advance to the final with his second place finish.
Eliminated from the Standard Trophy was the 5-2 race favourite, Strawpedo Joe. Joe baulked on the first bend, and couldn’t finish better than third place. In fourth was Aero Vegas and in fifth was Bomber Barley. Taking last place was Seanis Bet.
Coral On TV Standard Trophy - Heat 2
The second heat featured 7-4 joint favourites, Stans Printer and Barnagrane Mark, but neither hound qualified for the final. Instead it was Bead The Biscuit winning by 2 lengths over the race’s 10-1 longshot, Eye Onthe Brave. Biscuit finished with a time
of 23.96.
Brave got off to a great start and led the race early, but Biscuit forced his way into first on the third bend. Both hounds did well to beat the favourites, and earn spots in the final.
Printer took third place after a slow start, and Mark finished in fifth place after missing his break. Teddy Cool finished the race in fourth, and in last was Swift Minute.
Coral On TV Standard Trophy - Heat 3
The third heat was won by the 7-4 race favourite, Ardbeg Mentor, by 7¼ lengths over Pigalle Star. Mentor’s lead was never in question as he finished the race with the best time of the heats, 23.84.
Star’s finish was quite a bit tighter than Mentor’s as she took second by a mere ½ length over Droopys Cruyff. In fourth place was Tyrur Kerril, and in fifth was All Lit Up.
Fire For Effect was expected to compete for a spot in the final, but he had trouble on the first bend and came up lame. He finished the race 7½ lengths back of Lit Up.
Draw for Friday's £750 Final: 1 Pigalle Star, 2 Altmore Panther, 3 Eye Onthe Brave, 4 Ardbeg Mentor, 5 Lainedans Flyer, 6 Bead The Biscuit (m).
