Recap: Coral TV Maidens Trophy heats
Three Coral TV Maidens Trophy qualifying heats were run at Romford Monday night. The top two hounds from each race earned spots in the £750 final, which will be held on 29 October.
Coral TV Maidens Trophy - Heat 1
Ballyneale Bull took the first heat by 1¼ lengths over Maises Falcon. Bull charged into the lead from the traps, and stayed there for the duration of the race. He finished with a time of 24.13 seconds, the fastest time of the heats. Falcon was close to Bull
for the whole race, taking second and earning a spot in Friday’s final.
Finishing in third was Flagstaff Law. Law and the 6-4 race favourite, Cockney Diva, took each other out of contention for the final on the third bend with a little bit of contact. Diva, who also stumbled from the traps, finished in fourth place.
In fifth was Jay Tee Hawk, and in last was Lady Luck, who missed her break and didn’t recover in time to move up the field.
Coral TV Maidens Trophy - Heat 2
Heat two went to Aero Merlin. He got off to a very good start and the early lead, winning the race over Lady Shamrock by 2½ lengths with a time of 24.36. Shamrock, who was a 3-1 joint favourite along with Paulees Knight, looked good in this race, but just
wasn’t able to catch up to Merlin.
Third went to Gottabe Kinda, and fourth to Half The Battle. Paulees Knight missed his break, and was only able to get ahead of Wichita Joe, who didn’t encounter any problems in the race, but was just too slow.
Coral TV Maidens Trophy - Heat 3
The final heat saw Bridge Bomber take first place by 1¼ quarter lengths over the 5-2 race favourite, Boulanger Jet, with a time of 24.44. Despite getting off to a slow start, Bomber was able to take the lead from Jet as they neared the finish line.
In third place was Glasha Tribe, who had chances to win the race and kept pace with the leaders, but finished a length behind Jet and did not earn a spot in the final. Fourth went to Teflon Tim.
In fifth place was Foreva Luciejane, who was replacing Romeo Colardo in the first trap, and in last was Strattons Brett.
Draw for Friday's Final: 1 Lady Shamrock, 2 Maises Falcon (m), 3 Ballyneale Bull (m), 4 Boulanger Jet (w), 5 Bridge Bomber (w), 6 Aero Merlin (w).
