Recap: Nottingham's Puppy Cup final and 480m Trophy heats
The Stadium Bookmakers Autumn Puppy Cup final was run at Nottingham Monday 25 October, and immediately before the Puppy Cup were three qualifying heats for the Stadium Bookmakers 480m Trophy final, which
will be head on 11 November.
Stadium Bookmakers Autumn Puppy Cup – Final
The £500 Puppy Cup final was won by the 4-5 race favourite, Rebellious Queen. Queen baulked right out of the traps, but was still able to get off to the best start of the group, winning the race by three
lengths over Droopys Safari with a time of 30.37 seconds.
Safari also baulked in the early stages of the race, but was able to recover and finish 1½ lengths ahead of Fire Foods Nitro to take second place. In fourth was Storming Hawk, and in fifth was Peacocks
Pride. Taking last place was Romeo Daddy Cool.
Stadium Bookmakers 480m Trophy - Heat 1
The first heat of the 480m Trophy saw two racers drop out. Sandy Legend in trap one, and Droopys Edgar in trap five were both pulled from the race and not replaced.
Winning against only three other competitors was Slick Boy, who took the lead from Siren Melody on the third bend to win the race by two lengths over Final Boe. Boy finished with a time of 28.76.
Both Boe and Deerfield Sam, the 4-5 race favourite, were able to get ahead of Melody with Boe taking second and Sam third. Melody, who had a great start and led from the traps, fell to last after moving
out wide, and allowing the other racers to pass him on the inside.
Stadium Bookmakers 480m Trophy - Heat 2
In was Coolbrook Paddy taking the second heat by 1½ lengths over the even odds race favourite, Droopys Agatha, with a time of 28.83. Paddy, who saw odds of 11-8, took the lead on the first bend, and had
little difficulty keeping it.
Tuttles Maldini took third place, 6¼ lengths behind Agatha, and Monleek Broker finished in fourth. The 10-1 longshot of the race, Highfire Jack finished in fifth while Calzaghe Bolt finished in last.
Stadium Bookmakers 480m Trophy - Heat 3
The third heat and final heat of the 480m Trophy saw three different hounds hold the lead at one point. Westmead Scolari took the early lead, and held it till the second bend when Driving Up Ben shifted
gears and went in front. But both hounds ended up finishing out of the top three with Scolari in fifth and Ben in fourth.
Hee Haws Montana, a 5-2 joint favourite, took the lead from Ben as they neared the finish line with Reluctant and the other joint favourite, Lanrigg Lad, right on her tail. Montana won the race by a head
over Reluctant with a time of 29.18, the slowest time of all the heats.
Lad took third place, just ¾ of a length behind Reluctant, and Ben was only a head behind Lad. In last place was Droopys Simon.
