Recap: Silver Salver semi-finals
Henlow hosted the Silver Salver semi-finals on Thursday night. The top two hounds from each of the three races earned spots in the £4000 final on 11 November.
Silver Salver 1st Semi-Final
It was the 2-1 race favourite, Dalcash Scolari, winning the first race by a length over Torbal Galileo with a time of 33.40 seconds, the fastest time of the semi-finals. Dalcash got off to a great start,
and soon led the race. Torbal raced from the sixth trap and stayed wide, but a strong finish put him into the final.
Taking third place was Bourne Masons. He finished 4 lengths back of Torbal, and beat fourth place finisher, Westmead Melanie, by 1¾ lengths. In fifth was Westmead Palace, a 12-1 longshot, who finished
just ¾ lengths behind Melanie. Taking last was Droopys Master, one of two hounds trainer Seamus Cahill had in the race.
Silver Salver 2nd Semi-Final
Directors Spur narrowly won the second Silver Salver semi-final, finishing a head in front of Farloe Dasher with a time of 33.64. Ocean Star took the early lead in this race after getting off to a fantastic
start, but he couldn’t hold on as Farloe took the lead at the midway point of the race.
With four hounds in contention for first spot, Spur picked up the pace as the pack neared the finish line, taking the lead with little time left to spare. Farloe ended up in second place, just ¾ lengths
ahead of Skyscape Star.
Cahill’s 8-13 race favourite, Raving Black, was in the race from the start, but was crowded on the fourth bend, and fell to fourth place, a head behind Skyscape.
Ocean fell all the way back to fifth place, he finished two lengths behind Black, and in last place was Fabulous Effort.
Silver Salver 3rd Semi-Final
The third semi-final wasn’t nearly as exciting at the first as Barnfield Rocky took an early lead, and held on to beat All That Noise by 1¾ lengths with a time of 33.61. Taking third place was Goldies
Destiny, who slowed on the first bend and couldn’t challenge for a spot in the final after that. She finished three lengths behind Noise.
In fourth place was Trade Appollo, and in fifth was the 1-2 race favourite, Westmead Osprey, who was struck into on the first bend and couldn’t recover. Finishing in last place was the 16-1 longshot, Bridge
Bond.
