Recap: The Coors Guys & Dolls Cup semi-finals
The Coors Guys & Dolls Cup semi-finals were run at Yarmouth Saturday night. The semi-finals were divided into two divisions, the b*****s and the dogs, with the top three from each heat advancing to the
final which will be run on 27 October.
The b*****s Semi-final was scheduled as the second leg of the Saturday’s Pick 6 Jackpot, and the Dogs Semi-final was the fourth leg.
Coors Guys & Dolls Cup (b*****s Semi-final)
It was Glebe House winning the first semi-final by ¾ lengths over Darjina with a time of 29.18 seconds. Glebe got off to a good start and led the race from start to finish. Darjina was close behind her
for much of the race, but wasn’t able to squeeze in front of Glebe.
Just behind Darjina was Newtown Ruby, who finished ¾ lengths back in third. Ballyhill Pixie took fourth place, a neck behind Ruby, and another 1¾ lengths behind her was the even odds favourite, Jumgy.
Jumgy started in trap six, but moved into the middle of the pack and then back out wide, making it difficult for her to do better than her fifth place finish. In last place was Azure.
Coors Guys & Dolls (Dogs Semi-final)
Mullpark Flash won the dog’s semi-final by 3½ lengths over the 5-4 race favourite, Big Black Panda. Flash finished the race with a time of 28.96, the only hound of both semi-finals to finish with a time
under 29 seconds.
Flash led from the start while Panda lost ground on the first and third bends. Daves Duke challenged Panda to take second place but the favourite was able to fend off the surging Duke to keep his position.
Duke finished in third, a shoulder behind Panda.
In fourth was Inch Price, who baulked on the third bend, and in fifth was Cloncunny Jono. Last place went to Ridgedale Buzz.
Wednesday’s final draw for the £400 Guys & Dolls Cup final: 1 Big Black Panda, 2 Glebe House, 3 Darjina, 4 Newtown Ruby, 5 Mullpark Flash (m), 6 Daves Duke (m)
3rd Leg Pick 6 Jackpot
In between the two Guys & Dolls Cup semi-finals was the third leg of the Pick 6 Jackpot, an A1 race that saw Whinfell Delight win by 1¾ lengths over Make Change with a time of 28.46. Change led the race
early on, but Delight took the lead on the third bend.
In third was Severn Barcelona and in fourth was Trinity Benson. The 6-4 race favourite, Canary Delight, finished in fifth place, and Sooty Royale was last.
