Recap: Vetsearch Recharge round one
The opening round of the Vetsearch Recharge was completed at Harold’s Cross on Monday. The first round consisted of four heats, each one over 525 yards and worth 75 Euros. The final will take place on 29 October with the winner earning a prize of 6500 Euros.
Vetsearch Recharge Round 1 Heat 1
It was Bigstrongpup taking the early lead in the first heat, but Slick Saxon came on strong in the final stretch to take the lead, and the win with a time of 29.56 seconds. Bigstrongpup fell back to third place as Bockos Bullet squeezed into second place
in the final stretch of the race.
Billis Renegade finished in fourth place, and the 6-4 race favourite, Men Of Hope, took fifth. Finishing in last place was Hillcross Orion.
Vetsearch Recharge Round 1 Heat 2
Daring Light won the second heat by a shoulder over Clonrooske Guy with a time of 29.90. Light took the lead early, thanks to a very quick start, and had to hold off Guy as he closed the gap between them considerably on the final stretch.
Black Paws Down also had a strong finish, but ended the race three lengths behind Guy in third. Fourth went to the 5-4 race favourite, Alright Flash. Kilmalady Hondo, a 16-1 longshot, took fifth place, and Kilaharry Pat finished last.
Vetsearch Recharge Round 1 Heat 3
Junior Mac, the 4-5 race favourite, won the third heat with a time of 29.61. Clonkeen Theo and Cranley Bound finished in second, just a head behind Mac in a dead heat. Theo and Bound both pushed to take the lead as the finish line approached, but Mac picked
up his own pace to stay in front.
Third place went to Whiterock Champ, and fourth to Florida Rooster. Bridies Queen was replaced by Pancho Black in the second trap before the race began. Black was a 50-1 longshot, and as expected, finished in last place.
Vetsearch Recharge Round 1 Heat 4
Little Boy had an early lead in the fourth heat after a quick start, but Bear Grylls moved into first on the third bend, and won the race with by 5 ½ lengths over Boy. Grylls’ time of 29.39 was the fastest time of all the first round heats.
Nebuchadnezzar, the 6-4 race favourite, took third place, 2½ lengths behind Boy. In fourth was Catunda Gillian, and in fifth was Forest Tyson. Last place went to Butterbridge Tag, who couldn’t recover from a slow start.
