Recap from Belle Vue: Keith Swain Manchester Puppy Cup Final
Belle Vue hosted the £2500 Keith Swain Manchester Puppy Cup Final Thursday with a card full of exciting races.
Keith Swain Manchester Puppy Cup Final
Winning the Puppy Cup was Borna Coin, who was the only hound that didn’t encounter some kind of trouble on the track. Coin got off to a good start, and stayed ahead of a pack of dogs that seemed to be unable to avoid each other. He was a 12-1 longshot in
this race, and finished three lengths ahead of Droopys Luisao with a time of 27.91.
Tudor Prince came into the race as the 6-4 favourite after winning both his semi-final and opening round heat. He had also won seven of his last eight races before this race, but an early fall in the Puppy Cup final took him out of the race early.
Ballymac West, a 14-1 long-shot, collided with Prince on the first bend. Both hounds fell and finished well back of the rest of the group. West was the first to recover from the fall, taking fifth place while Prince ended up in last.
Five of the six racers were rubbing as they came out of the traps. West and Prince were pushed to the back of the pack early along with Ballymac Denis. Denis was able to avoid the fall, but couldn’t do better than fourth place, although he was only a neck
behind third.
Rayvin Neasa finished third after bumping a bit with Luisao in the early going. Neasa went out wide from the second trap, allowing Luisao to get ahead and take second place.
A1 470m Flat
Last on the Belle Vue card was an A1 flat race over 470m. There was a bit of pushing and shoving in this race too, but no hounds fell as Romeo Hondo took first place with a time of 28.75. Hondo just managed to beat Noirs Simon by a shoulder to claim his
third victory in four races. Simon held the lead from the first bend all the way to the home stretch before giving it up to Hondo.
Taking third place was Cuil Chief, who got off to a slow start and had to fight off Shes Amazing on the third bend to stay in third place. Amazing took fourth.
Finishing in fifth place was the 7-4 race favourite, Karma Ollie, and in last was Pennys Dusty.
