Recap of 25th National Men’s Volleyball Championship in Pakistan – Volleyball news
The Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) recently organised the 25th edition of National Men’s Junior Volleyball Championship in Shakargarh, Punjab.
The volleyball action was kicked off on Monday, March 19 and champion of the tournament was announced on Saturday, March 24. Dr Nahmat Stadium in Shakargarh set up the field of play for the event.
A total of eight teams from all around Pakistan participated in the campaign, which was sponsored by Shakargarh District Volleyball Association. Furthermore, the Punjab Volleyball Association and Shakargarh District Volleyball Association provided support
to run the show successfully.
In day-1 matches, teams from Azad Jammu Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) came into a head-to-head fight. The match spanned over five tiring sets and finally KPK squad emerged successfully. The match was sort of see-saw battle as KPK claimed the opening
set, while the AJK team retaliated in the following set and created the tie of scores by winning second set.
KPK bounced back in third set and extended its lead to 2-1 before AJK created the deadlock of 2-2 by capturing fourth set.
Finally, KPK proved to be better in the golden set and declared match victory. The final set scores were 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-10.
After winning the opening affair, the KPK squad went against Pakistan Navy. The second match was another incredibly contest, which lasted for five sets. Navy men got off to a good start and secure opening set with slight margin of two points (25-23).
They carried the same momentum and added another set victory to their name by sending 25-20 on board. Nonetheless, the KPK made a great comeback and won the match by capturing next three sets in row 25-20, 25-22 and 15-12.
Elsewhere, the team of Ministry of Narcotic Control (MONC) had the similar winning record. The MONC competed in two matches and bagged two back-to-back victories. In the first fixture, they were challenged by team from Balochistan. The MONC totally dominated
the visiting team and finished the match with final score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-05, 25-10). The victorious MONC team showed no mercy to Team Punjab in the next encounter. They defeated Punjab at the loss of one set 3-1 (25-11, 23-25, 25-16, 25-19).
Later on, the Punjab team took on Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Comparatively saying, it was much easy game for Punjab as FATA squad did not play hard. They collapsed in straight three sets and acknowledged the better status of Punjab. The
local team, which was also equipped with great support of fans, scored a comfortable 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) victory.
Meanwhile, AJK played its second match against Sindh and worked out 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-13) victory. AJK dropped the first match to KPK but victory against Sindh was good enough to close the opening day of the tournament.
The successful teams of the first round of the tournament advanced to quarter-finals, which took place on Thursday. In the next run, top four teams joined the semis and final match was played on Saturday.
