Recap of Kenya Prisons’ failing performance in 2010 Women’s Club World Championship
The 2010 African Champions, Kenya Prisons failed to create any spark with their failing performance at the Club World Championship in Doha, Qatar. The 2010 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship invited six teams from different continents of the world and
the extreme volleyball action continued from December 15-21. Kenya Prison was joined by Federbrau, Mirador, Sollys Osasco, Fenerbahce and Bergamo. The Al-Gharafa Sports Hall in Doha, Qatar hosted the wonderful matches, which put the teams’ abilities to a real
test. At the end of the campaign Fenerbahce of Turkey settled for top slot in ranking, while Kenya Prisons firmly held the bottom spot.
The Kenyan Club started their journey four years ago when the club was formed in 2006. The head coach of Kenya Prisons, David Lungaho came a long way with his team and played an instrumental role in their growth. Despite of the obscure conditions, Kenya
Prisons earned a very good reputation and emerged as one of the top African clubs. Since 2006, they captured two continental titles with a spectacular game. In addition, they also seized three national league crowns by putting a tremendous effort. They proved
their steel in Africa and aimed bigger achievements at international level.
The team entered the 2010 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship with an ambition to get their hands on the World Title. The coach David Lungaho prepared his team for the big clash and hoped for the better status. Before the start of tournament he expressed
his views: "We are taking one match at a time. Our target is to get to the finals and if we can win this competition, then it will be a great honour to us and Kenya as a whole.”
Lungaho was confident about his team-line as he could see the excitement of players. He said, “If you look at the hunger in the players' eyes for success, you will see they will not be going to Doha just to fill the numbers but to stake a claim at the bigger
prize. I have an advantage because they are mostly young players and soon we will be able to completely dominate Volleyball in Africa and in Kenya."
Nonetheless, the African team couldn’t live up their dream to hold the title trophy. Kenya Prison was allotted a place in the Pool B of Club World Championship. They had to cope with the tough contenders in the first round of the tournament. South American
