Recap of day 1 of 2011 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship
The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) is conducting an exciting women’s volleyball campaign this week. The 2011 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship started off on Sunday, June 19 with eight teams from Asian countries.
The participants were divided into following two pools:
Pool A – Vietnam, Iran, Japan and Philippine Pool B – Indonesia, China, Kazakhstan, and Thailand
The event is being hosted by Vietnam, where the city of Vinh P**c has set the field of play for teams. The opening day of the tournament featured two matches in each group of teams. In Pool A, Japan and hosts Vietnam clinched success. Likewise, Thailand
and Kazakhstan pulled off success in Pool B.
Pool A
In the first match of Pool A, Japanese women took on team from Iran. The former proved to be too good for victory and outclassed Iran by posting 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-16, and 15-10). It was a point-to-point battle between two sides. Iran was equipped
with strong team-line, while Japanese had also done their home work.
Iranian ladies exhibited good performance and secured first set of the match. Japan made quick come-back and leveled the game score by winning second set. The ball kept rolling over the net and see-saw battle continued as Iran once again extended its lead
to 2-1 by capturing third set. Japanese side outshined in following set and created a dead-lock at 2-2. The game entered fifth decisive set and provided equal chance of victory to both teams. Luck was on Japanese side as they claimed the match by winning final
set.
The second match in Pool A brought teams from Vietnam and Philippine together on the centre court. The home team took full advantage of familiar conditions and edged out Philippine in straight sets. They polled 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, and 25-8) on board, in order
to earn the status of victorious team. Pumped-up Vietnam players totally dominated the opponents.
The good combination of attack and defence enabled them to close off first set with big margin of 13 points. The visitors hit back strongly in the next set and struggled to catch up with the rival side. However, team Vietnam ousted them by posting 25-18
in second set. The following set was a total disaster for Philippine as local ladies took the score by storm and won third set by 8 points.
Pool B
On the opening day of 2011 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship on Sunday, June 19, teams from Indonesia and Thailand crossed their ways. Thailand defeated Indonesian squad by registering 25-10, 25-15, and 25-16 in three respective sets. Thai side
gained the control of operations from the very beginning of the match.
They covered every inch of their half and didn’t allow opposite side to score points. Meanwhile, Thai spikers showed their attacking-power and hit unstoppable shots. Indonesia slipped the opening set with fairly good margin of points. The mood of the game
didn’t change in following two sets and finally Thailand walked away with the tag of winners.
In the next match on same day, Kazakhstan defeated China in a five-set thriller. They posted 3-2 (25-15, 20-25, 21-25, 25-18, and 15-13) victory over Chinese side. Opening set was given in the favor of Kazakhstan, which was followed by two consecutive set-wins
by China. Kazak ladies bounced back in fourth set and hit the equalizer. Afterwards, they continued with success and overpowered China in 15-point golden set and announced match victory.
