Recap of round one at Frys.com Open 2010
The Frys.com Open 2010 was held at the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin and offered a purse of $5 million for the winner. The event began on the 13th of October and concluded on the 17th.
The Open was a mixture of several big hitters and solid drivers. Competing for the win required a careful selection of drives to fight several levels of golf fields. Among the hitters, Graham DeLaet and John Ellis’s play at R1 is worth taking a look at.
Graham DeLaet was standing at position number 14 with a minus 3. He carded a 68 in his first round and shared the place with eight other players. DeLaet was appearing at the Fall Series of the PGA Tour for the third time in a row. He had been successful
in making the cut in the first two events and made his way into the top 25. His entry in the top 25 had projected the golfer towards to the top 125 list of money-winners.
Among the money listings, DeLaet was standing at 114th place with a total bucket of $ 749,890. His current standings put him only 57,000 dollars behind the 125th place holder, Aron Price. Aron Price has a total dollar amount of 693,502
to stand above DeLaet.
Other than DeLaet, Aaron Goldberg and John Ellis are also set to make their mark on the Frys.com field. Both of these players have played the Canadian Tour at Dakota Dunes with Goldberg appearing at the 2009 Saskatchewan Open and Ellis at the Dakota Dunes
casino Open this year.
John Ellis ended the first round of the Frys.com Open 2010 after carding a 70 with a minus 1. The thirty year old started his game with a bad countenance but soon caught up with the game’s requirement. He made one eagle and 3 birdies in the last 15 holes
ending on T33.
Ellis stood with a 4 under after playing 4 holes but the 10th and the 11th hole forced the thirty year old to play back-to-back bogeys. He played another bogey on the 12th hole but thankfully carded a par at the next.
According to Ellis, he is extremely happy with the way he played the first round. He said that standing on the 70s is ok and the way he played earlier in R1, he is thankful to get away with it.
What the game witnessed was Ellis patient way of golf which helped him regain his form swiftly. After bogeying on previous holes, the thirty year old carded only pars or better than that in the upcoming holes.
He collected a birdie at the 14th hole and a par at the 16th hole. Other than the par 4 and 3, the thirty year old also managed to score one eagle on the par 5, 9th hole.
Among those who carded an Eagle, Rocco Mediate also made a remarkable Eagle at the third hole. Mediate went on to win the trophy and at that time held a one shot lead over the tournament’s field with Ryuji Imada standing at minus 6, along with Bo Van Pelt
and Paul Goyodos.
Van Pelt was considered to be the outright option of the highest interest. Other than Van Pelt, Swede Henrik Stenson and Shaun Micheel are also slowly appearing in the Frys.com picture after standing at 20-1 and 28-1.
The first of the Frys.com was suspended due to darkness with only one group remaining. Before the second round commenced this Friday, the Rich Barcelo, Jarrod Lyle and Danny Wax group had to finish early, prior the R2.
