Recap of the fiercest battles of 2012: Djokovic vs. Federer – French Open 2012
Right-hander Serbian professional, Novak Djokovic, rallied past the tennis veteran, Roger Federer, in the semi-final of the French Open held at the clay courts of Roland Garros. He penned down his triumph against Federer in a three
sets match, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3. The Serbian professional struggled hard to win the final match against the Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, who bagged away his seventh French Open title this year to set a record.
Talking to the media, Djokovic informed, “There's a lot on the line. It always is when you're playing finals of a Grand Slam. We expect another emotional match, another big challenge for both of us, fighting for one of the four
biggest titles in our sport. For me personally, is that I have this golden opportunity to make history. This motivates me. It really inspires me. I'm really grateful to be in this position, obviously. I'll try to prepare for that match and get my hands on
that trophy if I can. I know that I have to be playing consistently well on a very high level.”
The Swiss professional commenced the match at a very positive note as his serve precision was spotless. Immediately, the score line levelled down to 2-all and Djokovic started to manifest his true colours. He stole the opening
set away from the Swiss in nearly 34 minutes to get the upper hand in the matchup.
Despite of his initial failure, the right-hander Swiss did not lose his morale. He progressed with the same serve precision and smashed powerful ground strokes. The higher-ranked Serbian responded with his strong grip on his footwork.
Federer initially secured 5-2 led but lost his charm when he was unable to capitalize on the three break opportunities.
As the match progressed, it became impossible for Federer to sustain his former thrust. Although, he was aiming to secure the Roland Garros final for the sixth time, he was unable to put up a good show in the tough conditions.
He still hopes that he will secure the front next in his upcoming tennis campaign as this year was a difficult clay court season.
The 31-year-old, Federer, secured 56 percent initial serve precision with nine aces in total. He double faulted three times with 46 unforced errors. He bagged away 27 of 48 first and 17 of 38 second serve points. In comparison
to this, Djokovic, attained 68 percent first serve accuracy with six aces and just 17 unforced errors, clinching away 45 of 62 points.
