Recap of the final four matches of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament
The second stop of the NORCECA Beach Circuit completed its length on Sunday, April 10 in Guatemala.
The double-gender event was kicked off on Friday and it featured 35 beach volleyball duos, who displayed a great show of beach volleyball. The tournament was opened with the first preliminary round, which promoted successful teams in the main-draw. The last
day of the tournament featured quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final encounter of the tournament. The activity was rounded off on Sunday.
In the men’s division, Mexican Juan Virgen and Aldo Miramontes emerged as the winners of the gold-ware. They outshone Cuban duo of Karel Pena and Javier Jimenez in three set match. Mexico was represented by two men’s teams in the tournament, while Juan Virgen
and Aldo Miramontes played under the tag of Mexico-2. Quite similarly, the women’s title was captured by Canadian Heather Bansley and Elizabetha Maloney.
The Mexican pair collided with the Dominican Republic Team in the quarter-final match on Sunday. The pairing of Virgen/Miramontes saw Yewddy Perez and German Recio of Dominican Republic on the other side of the net. The Mexican duo was perfectly shaped up
to create a major sensation in the match. They were equipped with all necessary tools and tricks of the game.
The first whistle of referee started the action. Virgen was on serve and he supplied plenty of power to hit the ball in accurate direction. The Mexicans managed to create an early impression on the rival side. They spotted the weak areas of the Dominican
Republic and directed their shots in the targeted places. The first set swiftly inched its way to the end. The scoreboard showed the final score of 22-10 at the end opening set.
The Dominican Team fight back in the following set. Both Republican players put up a joint effort and struggled to hinder the performance of opponents. They scored good points and managed to disturb the rhythm of Mexican Team. However, the strong Mexican
duo denied their efforts. They remained ahead in the game and closed off second set at 22-20. The Mexican team advanced to the semi-final with this particular win.
In the semi-final competition, Mexicans came across Puerto Rico’s Roberto Rodriguez and Christopher Underwood. The Puerto Rican has prepared well for the semi-final fixture. They played in a great style and created much trouble for the Mexican players. Somehow,
the duo of Juan Virgen and Aldo Miramontes had the ability to cope with the situation.
They grasped the game plan of rival side and formulized appropriate strategy to push them behind the line. The early phase of the opening set was quite unpredictable. Each side was in hurry to claim the set. However, Mexican pair added consecutive points
near the end of first set and posted 21-19 to secure the set.
They kept on putting more and more effort in the second set and hit the Dominican Republic side from different angles. Puerto Rican players tried hard but could not tackle the power of Mexican shots. Second set also ended in Mexico’s favour at 21-14. The
team of Virgen/Mirmontes won the semi-final and booked slot in the final match.
The strong pairing of Juan Virgen and Aldo Miramontes had a lot of confidence to exhibit a memorable performance in the final match.
On the other hand, the Cuban Karel Peña and Javier Jimenez were fully prepared to give a hard time to Mexicans in the final match. The final match of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament put both teams to a real test.
The Mexican duo hit the mark and captured the opening set of the match with a margin of 2 points. Anyhow, the Cuban team tied the game score at the end of second set. The pulled off success in second set with the help of 22-20. The 15-point golden set was
also captured by Mexican side, which declared them the winner of the tournament.
