Recap of women’s final four of Toluca Beach Volleyball Tournament – Volleyball news
The Mexican city Toluca recently hosted the 6th NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit Tournament, which completed its run from May 25-27.
The Toluca Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament featured thrilling action of beach volleyball at the State of Mexico University Campus. Three-day competition attracted large number of fans and especially the turn-out was great on the final day of the campaign.
The tournament came to an end on Sunday and featured the most influential ‘final four’ matches.
The final day of the Toluca Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament was opened with two semi-finals.
In the first semifinal, Mexican pairing of Mayra García and Bibiana Candelas clashed with Canadian tandem of Tait and Cowley. The hosts had the advantage of playing in front of the local fans. They totally dominated the visiting duo and did not allow them
to come up. Match ended in straight sets of 2-0 (21-4, 21-14), while Garcia/Candelas emerged successful.
With semi-final victory, the home duo clawed its way to the final showdown of the tournament.
Second semi-final of the Toluca Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament featured tandems from Mexico and Cuba. The visiting Caribbean team created a lot of buzz on the centre court and gave a tough competition to the hosts. The match spanned over three sets,
while the score tied frequently. Cuban pair worked out good progress in the opening stanza and claimed the first set with four points 21-17.
However, the Mexican team showed its power in the second set and managed to break the tempo of Cuban ladies. In the meantime, local team got enough support from audience to beat the visitors in the second set, 21-12. In the decisive third set, Mexican Revuelta/Virgen
proved to be better and held Canet/Sinal for 15-11 win. Hence, the Mexicans clinched success in the match with 2-1 ratio. They also joined the compatriots in the final match of the tournament.
In the all-Mexican final match, Garcia/Candelas outclassed compatriots Revuelta/Virgen, 2-0 (21-15, 21-11). The former duo staged better action on the net and finished the match in just two sets. The dream came true for Revuelta and Virgen as they got their
hands on the title trophy of the NORCECA Beach Circuit Tournament.
The final day of the tournament was closed with the bronze medal match, which brought the losers of two semi-finals. In the third-position match, Cuban Ion Canet and Niriam Sinal defeated Jacqueline Tait amd Victoria Cowley from Canada. They posted 2-1 (18-21,
21-18, 15-11) on board and settled for bronze-ware.
In the next run, the NORCECA Beach Circuit will move to the Cuban town of Varadero. The next tournament will take place from June 8 to 10. It will serve as preparation for the finals of the Beach Continental Cup in Mazatlan, Mexico, which will be held from
June 19 to 23.
