Recap round three South African Open
The day belonged to the South African, George Coetzee, as he set up the course record by shooting a stunning round of 63 at Serengeti Golf Club.
However, after carding a three-under 69 on Saturday, the Swede Henrik Stenson took a three shot lead going in to the final round of South African Open.
Stenson shot six birdies and three bogeys to take a three-shot lead over Coetzee and Magnus Carlsson. The Swede is currently on his way to record his first victory on the European Tour since his title at the WGC Accenture Match Play back in 2007.
"George (Coetzee) was on fire today, so I'll obviously need to watch out," Stenson said. "But the final round is about focusing on your own game and playing well, and what happens happens. I'm focused on playing well ... and winning this championship".
Stenson is happy with way things stand at the moment but he is vary of the threat posed by Coetzee.
"Three shots is enough if you're playing the last, but it's not going to be decided until late here. George was on fire today, but sometimes it's hard to follow up a low round with another low round".
On the other hand, local boy, Coetzee started the day nine strokes adrift of the overnight and current leader, Stenson, but soon gained ascendency.
George shot nine birdies and an eagle. However, his two bogeys pegged him back a little. Nonetheless it was his day on Saturday.
"It's great to shoot a 63 and I'm very happy, but I have to forget about it as soon as possible," Coetzee said. "I've got to go out tomorrow".
Stenson’s Swedish compatriot Magnus Carlsson is also tied at T2 along with George Coetzee.
Former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel had a disappointing day on Saturday, as he fell ten shots behind the leader after carding a poor round of two-over 74.
Another South African Braden Grace also fell off the pace, as he shot a pathetic round of 78.
Former top ranked player Martin Kaymer carded a 68 and is tied at T6 for the tournament. The German is improving nicely as the tournament is moving on. He carded five birdies and a bogey on Saturday.
Merrick Bremner, the leader after 18-holes, is tied at the fifth position, where as compatriot Darren Fichardt is at the fourth.
Things are nicely setup for a thrilling final round on Sunday. Nevertheless, Stenson is the favourite.
